I think it's pretty sweet that Dean Hall meets with people who visit.

Anyone have any experience with one of these meetings? I'm meeting him next week so any observations/advice is appreciated!

I met with him a few weeks ago. More or less you are going to go and make small talk for a little bit then he will ask you if you have any questions at which point you ask hiim a series of thoughtful questions that show you are really truely curious about some things at the school. He is a nice guy and not very intimidating so don't worry. Just be prepared with some questions so you don't like you came all this way for a tour but have no idea what to ask him. I hope that helps to give you a better idea. Oh ya he will have no idea who you are when you walk in. He does not review your file before hand, at least he did not for me or other people I have talked to.

He had clearly reviewed my file beforehand. When I asked him if he could tell me anything that wasn't in the brochures, he gave me some extraordinarily helpful information that was specifically tailored to my interests and abilities which I probably would never have discovered on my own.

In all honesty with your very impressive numbers it does not surprise me that he reviewed your file before hand. He was attempting to make every effort he could to entice you to become a student. Whereas us waitlisted individuals don't get the same treatment, at least I don't think so. Again that is simply the impression that I got, not that it really matters all that much. If you have questions you ask them.

worked for me.

i'm just saying, a WL from UW doesn't seem to be like the WL you get from other schools. Wisc seems to use the WL as a soft accept in some situations.

Panther, your splitter WL->Acceptance is my inspiration. Maybe they'll throw some of that love my way, over here on the west coast.

I'll actually be in town today to check out apartments (leaving now), however I'll be with the parents, so I think I'll have to pass on a meetup. I'll be down there for ASW in two weeks though.

There's nothing like riding through the UW Arboretum in the middle of Fall...it's absolutely beautiful. A 4-mile winding road that snakes through a forest and nature preserve...it really is incredible.

Exercise is huge in Madison--I always see people running through the Arboretum, too. However, most runners take the bike path along Lake Menona, which offers spectacular views of the water and is gorgeous in the spring/summer. I just did my inaugural run this past week--can't argue with 75 degrees and sunny!

Is there still an ASW coming up this year?

Its still a possibility. You never know I could get mugged or something at Chicago asw. That's actually a high probability.

If you want a nice 13 mile run you can run around some of the lakes. Also the bike paths are great for marked mile trails. Otherwise you can link up to the trails in arboretum for some softer footing. There is no shortage of good long runs around town. I have plenty of 15 mile plus routes that keep me from getting bored doing the same ones. Plus there are a ton of groups at the local shoe stores that meet up for runs as well that you could find additional trails from. Also, the Madison marathon is a great race in May every year. You will not be starved for good running partners or routes in Madison.

16/17 Was looking at apartments today in Madison, found I really liked the apartments between Kohl Center, Law School, and Camp Randall. Short walking distance to law school (only a block or two) and it seems like it's a short distance to anything substantial. i hate running. i'll stick to flag football or something.

however i did see people running and biking EVERYWHERE this weekend.

I run about 50 a week these days, not quite high mileage, but I have no trouble finding nice runs. I spend the vast majority of my time on the Arb trails, which are soft, beautiful and apparently full of turkeys these days. The Military Ridge Trail is also a nice forgiving surface that isn't too far out of town. And of course if you don't mind pounding the concrete, the bike paths in Madison are extensive. If you have doubts about Madison as a running town, just remember that UW has a baller XC and distance team, and they've gotta run somewhere!

Berkeley, Movin' Shoes and Fleet Feet off the top of my head have running clubs. Their websites should all have info about when and how regularly they meet. They are good opportunities to socialize and some solid runners come out. I think the university has track/running clubs too. If all else fails, go out on a sunny day and sidle up beside somebody running the same direction. Note: Women don't always react well to that, especially when they have earbuds in.

Just rolled into Madison tonight. I'll be visiting tomorrw and then driving back to MPLS but I look forward to exploring a little!

. Just to compare notes, whats your running routine like? I remember pulling 4-4-4-4-7-7-7 last summer and my legs hurt like hell. What kind of running shoes do you have? Nowadays, i am keeping it to 4-4-4-4-break on friday-7-7.

Nope. Still anxiously waiting for any sort of action. My life needs to be planned out and Wisconsin is really making that difficult.

I can't answer this specifically but Dean Hall recently indicated that the process is very fluid and they are continuously looking at the WL...things can happen quickly
