Yeah, I think it is sadly generic. You should have gotten money by now because, correct me if I am wrong, but you received a decision before I did.

I was accepted on 12/15, the admissions lady told me it takes 2 weeks or more for scholarship information. When were you accepted?sckon wrote:robin600 wrote:Anybody get the nice email from the environmental law professor?? I like that you want me, but I want you to want to give me $ please!

just fyi to those who are disappointed to find they haven't gotten an award letter after 3 weeks: was told today they're doing full scholarships right now and that partial scholarships will be evaluated/notified in mid-january. all is not lost if you haven't heard back.

Got full scholarship letter today, plus research assistant in second and third years. Contingent upon staying in the top third. Ouch! Does anyone know if and to what degree Iowa does section stacking?

At first I thought I had the same offer, but mine is a Law Opportunity Fellowship and I can't see any info about the class rank requirement. (??)

From what I've researched, residency is pretty easy to get @ UI by the second year.martin024 wrote:In today via email. happy. Does anyone know if it's possible to apply for residency by the second year?

Tight. The difference between res and non-res tuition is kinda huge.

Mine says it pretty clearly on the scholarship letter that you have to stay in the top third. Mine is definitely called something different, anyway.emrose wrote:Good question.Halibut6 wrote:Got full scholarship letter today, plus research assistant in second and third years. Re: U Iowa 2010 App Cycle
not sure what you found in your research but the only ways I know of to get in state res while a student in Iowa is to be half time or less for 12 months or to get a RA position. This is based on Iowa law.thepcv wrote:From what I've researched, residency is pretty easy to get @ UI by the second year.martin024 wrote:In today via email. happy. Wow, I stand corrected. I know I read something re: gaining residency by the 2nd year, but now I can't find it... here's what TLS says about Iowa for residency:
Sorry to get our hopes up there (I'll still look around a bit more to see if I can find what I thought I originally saw--but I'm guessing I probably mixed up Iowa with another school I was researching).IOWA: Iowa is another state where it is difficult to petition for residency. In addition to "domiciling" for 12 months in the Hawkeye State, the University of Iowa's website states that "certain things have probative value" (in other words, no guarantees) to substantiate a claim to residency: Reliance upon Iowa resources for financial support, acceptance of an offer of permanent employment in Iowa. The website goes out of its way to explain that things which often pass for a commitment to residency in other states--paying state income taxes, voting in Iowa elections, registering one's vehicle in Iowa--will not be sufficient for purposes of gaining in-state tuition. Thus, it might be possible for an incoming 3L who has accepted a position with an Iowa-based firm to get residency for their final year, but that seems to be about it.

No problem. Iowa is not impossible to get residency with but I just wanted to make sure people know that it is not like Florida or California where you can get residency after living there for one year.thepcv wrote:

This has a good FAQ on how Iowa determines residency for anyone who wants more information on it.

Woah!
Just learned that I've been given a full ride! A combination of tuition grants, RA grants and an RA position. That definitely puts Iowa at the top of my list so far!
