North County is not terrible, but it's, again, the place I grew up which I'm hesitant to go back to for fear of feeling stagnated. Also, I'm mid 20's and single, I finally have had a chance to live in downtown San Francisco and love it. If I do go to USD, I'm staying near where things happen. I could see moving to North County if I was in a relationship and wanted things to slow down a bit.

That's just me though...
north county is awesome to either grow up or start a family in. If you are in your 20's and move to north county, the only other people in your age group will be townies.

Also, i hate PB. IMO, like Balboa Island (OC) but with the whole SDSU extreme frat scene. super touristy. no offense to the poster who lives there, though.

If I decide to go to USD, I'm gonna be forced to look for a nice apartment in downtown. I think that's the only way I can stomach moving back.

If I went to USD I would live in PB, or OB, hands down!
I'd rather brush my teeth with a strait razor than live in PB. That place is the bane of San Diego.

OB I'd definitely consider, at least for the proximity to Hodad's :)

Alrighty, I'll just shut up then! :)

North County is def a little slower and more family oriented, which works for me right now. But I can see the draw of being closer to DTown.

I went to USD for a campus tour on Wednesday is anybody has any questions!

I also would not want to live in PB. I'll probably try to find a place downtown or move in with some friends of mine who are grad students at SDSU. :)

Im on your side! :)

I currently live in OB, and split my time out between PB and Downtown. Honestly, I dont like the people I meet out downtown, so I would never live there. I have a strong aversion to the sdsu frat type, and still manage to have fun/meet nicer people in PB. I also prefer to be by the beach. Its personal preference, but for you people that don't currently live here, your idea of the downtown scene may be different from the reality.

Edit: Im also just bored at work and feel like defending PB.

:| hmm, not really. I'm trying to appeal for some more money, but I don't think it can win out. I wish some of these other schools were in San Diego...

Agreed. I love San Diego but definitely wouldn't be able to attend USD without some serious financial aid. I still haven't heard anything about scholarships and I was accepted a little less than a month ago.

I applied 12/02, got my acceptance letter 12/15, haven't heard a peep on the scholarship front.... it's really annoying, everyday i come home from work and the FIRST thing I do is check my mailbox, and every day i get some sort of credit card application, coupons, and inevitably, mail for my roommate who doesn't live here anymore! the daily rollercoaster is driving me crazy!!

I'm also a SD native and anti-PB. Very fratty indeed. I haven't spent too much time in North County so I can't really comment there. (I'm from East County originally...unfortunate I know) I used to live in Hillcrest though and LOVED it! I would recommend it to any USDers. It's probably a 10 minute drive at most to campus and 5 minutes to downtown. A cab to downtown is only like $8. Plus Hillcrest itself is awesome so you don't even have to leave to have fun.

I grew up in East County as well and now work in Hillcrest. I agree, Hillcrest is very centrally located, reasonably priced, and has some good bars (just do your research, this is the gay area of town and no one wants to wonder in the Brass Rail with out knowing). You can find cheaper rent and hipster bars in Northpark as well, but it's a little farther away from USD and there are some areas that aren't that great, so definitely visit before putting down a deposit. Learn more about North Park in this NY Times article...http://travel.nytimes.com/2009/12/06/tr ... %22&st=cse

Point Loma is also close to USD, closer to the beaches, but not as "fratty" as PB.

lol, I've seen that article. It's funny to see someone referencing a NYT travel article I've read. Definitely a good resource though.

Same position, though I was accepted a couple months ago. Has anyone successfully negotiated with them this cycle?

As a 1L, I've gathered that the best students live in Morena or Linda Vista. If you want to take law school really seriously, live walking distance from school. If you want to spend lots of time and money on social endeavors, PB or Downtown would be right up your alley.

Morena is infinitely closer to campus than the rest of LV, and there's 100% less graffiti and dangerous criminals.

i think morena is depressing as hell, and i've never run into any violent criminals in lv
