Re: U of San Diego Fall 2010
I submitted my FAFSA a couple of days before I got my grant. Is there any chance the grant was given in response to the FAFSA report in such a short time frame seeing how the deadline's further into the future? Also, does the scholly info arrive separately? Got a grant for $23k with no strings attached. It's only for 1 year though.

look. fafsa shouldn't matter for merit aid.zeth006 wrote:I submitted my FAFSA a couple of days before I got my grant. But is there any reason to believe I will or won't receive merit aid for 2nd and 3rd years? Should I assume I might not receive any aid for 2nd and 3rd year like the others who got the top 50% stipulation???

got my scholly letter, 25k/yr with top 1/3 requirement....mmm I'm trying really hard to be happy with it.
I want to stay in CA and so far I have this, LLS with 22k/yr top third requirement, and Hastings at sticker....I'm not really sure I'm going to be staying here.

thats the tough thing about CA. the midwest schools would give you more prestige for cheaper. did you apply to ucla or uci, i can't remember your numbers but i would think UCI would be a good affordable place for you.Veritas wrote:got my scholly letter, 25k/yr with top 1/3 requirement....mmm I'm trying really hard to be happy with it.

Ya, I applied to both. UCI is a crap shoot these days! If I got in it would be a serious contender.twert wrote:thats the tough thing about CA. the midwest schools would give you more prestige for cheaper. did you apply to ucla or uci, i can't remember your numbers but i would think UCI would be a good affordable place for you.Veritas wrote:got my scholly letter, 25k/yr with top 1/3 requirement....mmm I'm trying really hard to be happy with it.

I did get good offers from midwest school and east coast schools, but I would like to stay out West.

Sticker at Hastings is rough, especially when you factor the cost of living.Veritas wrote:got my scholly letter, 25k/yr with top 1/3 requirement....mmm I'm trying really hard to be happy with it.

25k at USD cuts down the cost of tuition a lot, but its not nearly as good as some of the other offers you have. Plus a top 1/3 requirement isn't that great.

I still don't have anything from USD and I was admitted forever ago. Sigh...why the heck are they taking so long?Inygma wrote:Veritas wrote:got my scholly letter, 25k/yr with top 1/3 requirement....mmm I'm trying really hard to be happy with it.

Edit: I would love the west coast option. At the moment, it looks like I'll be leaving for the snowy east coast.

I also just got the scholarship info, 15k a year with top 50%. I am probably going to withdraw shortly, USD is expensive.

DR 2/4, mailed 2/4
suppose it should come in the mail today
although the consensus on here RE merit aid isn't very encouraging

Re: U of San Diego Fall 2010
Finally got my scholarship info!
$15k/yr with top 50% requirement. That is about what I expected, but I had my fingers crossed for something a little larger to tip the scale in San Diego's favor...

The view of USD from my desk is awful. It just taunts me all day.
Good luck on your decision, sdegarmo, it is about time!

Hahah, with your numbers I doubt that. You just seemed to me to be the one still hanging out [strike]weeks[/strike] months longer than anyone else who applied when you did.sdegarmo wrote:lol, at least im not the only one that thought it had been a whilealgren wrote:I had this same thought when I was reading down this thread, "omg, sdegarmo finally heard!"Veritas wrote:omg finally!sdegarmo wrote:DR 2/4, mailed 2/4

Has anyone successfully negotiated their scholarship to either a higher amount or to one with no stipulations? I am especially interested in the latter and would appreciate if anyone could share his/her experiences. PM me if you don't want to post it here in the thread, thanks a lot!

I remember someone saying they were able to negotiate more $$$ but stipulations stayed.

Re: U of San Diego Fall 2010
Hi guys,
I applied 1/3, completed within a week, accepted on 1/22.
I got my grant letter on 1/27. 30k a year, dependent on financial need.

Guess I'll stop whining--Got my letter today with the 25K/yr renewable if stay in top third.
How seriously are you all considering USD? Is it one of your top 3 contenders at this point?
