I am a 1L at USD, feel free to ask me any questions about the school or the city.
I am originally from Orange County if that gives you a frame of reference.

I'm waiting on my husband's W2 to submit my FAFSA (argh!! I've never been this anxious to get my taxes done!), was accepted a few weeks ago via snail mail, yet to hear anything about merit-based $$$.
Has anyone in NorCal received any mail scholly info yet??

Re: U of San Diego Fall 2010
I pay $600 a month for a nice place east of campus. I have 2 roommates that I barely see who go to another school. I only pay electricity ($50-60) for all three of us and cable internet ($60) for all three of us. I got in on a good deal. It is not as expensive as people have said.Borhas wrote:How much do the living expenses add up to?sundaynightdelite wrote:I am a 1L at USD, feel free to ask me any questions about the school or the city.

From what I've gathered on here and from a few friends that go to USD law.... all schollys come with a top 1/3 stipulation.superflush wrote:Mind sharing the stipulations?RednBlack wrote:Stats are a bit fudged but around 3.85 GPA and 168 LSAT.

+1 That's the stipulation mine came with.Inygma wrote:From what I've gathered on here and from a few friends that go to USD law.... all schollys come with a top 1/3 stipulation.superflush wrote:Mind sharing the stipulations?RednBlack wrote:Stats are a bit fudged but around 3.85 GPA and 168 LSAT.

Well if "all" means 100%, then you would be wrong. I have no stips. And I know a girl w/o stips, also. I do believe we are in the "minority" however. No pun intended.Inygma wrote:From what I've gathered on here and from a few friends that go to USD law.... all schollys come with a top 1/3 stipulation.superflush wrote:Mind sharing the stipulations?RednBlack wrote:Stats are a bit fudged but around 3.85 GPA and 168 LSAT.

This is what I'm talking about, "The law school considers entering students for a number of need-based partial tuition scholarships. These scholarships are based on the applicant's financial need, academic promise, potential for service to the community and for contribution to the diversity of the USD community. Generally, these awards are for up to 75% tuition in the appropriate entering day or evening division. Some of these grants are renewable each academic year. To be considered, applicants must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as well as the School of Law Institutional Financial Aid Application. "

Take that for what it's worth.

Mine was actually a $$ no stips, bumped up to a $$$ no stips. So that was awesome. But I am a URM, and so is the girl... so that does cloud things up.Inygma wrote:

Ya, people who I know IRL aren't URM that have the 1/3 stip. Though I'm sure most students enter law school equally poor, so I don't understand not putting the stip on all people, but that can be reserved for another threadsundaynightdelite wrote:Mine was actually a $$ no stips, bumped up to a $$$ no stips. You are preaching to the choir, my man. But you and everyone else know that I would be remiss to not take advantage of the opportunities presented to me, fair or not.Inygma wrote:Ya, people who I know IRL aren't URM that have the 1/3 stip. Lol, example please? All I can think of is "I am interested and the application process is costly, and I would appreciate it."superflush wrote:Well, maybe a bit more than that.bissey wrote:as in applying costs a lot of money and I would appreciate it?superflush wrote:"you must submit a request via email explaining your need"bissey wrote:any requirements?

Re: U of San Diego Fall 2010
Yea, I just sent an email. Hopefully they'll say yes.
I don't know much about the school other than it's location being awesome. I assume I will be accepted (not meant to sound conceited/douchey) but does anyone (bored, or just really nice) wanna guess what my chances on getting a scholarship/amount? Not too much data on LSN, though it got me kind of hopeful. I think it would be an awesome place to live, but it would mean giving up higher ranked schools, so I would need a good scholarship to make choosing it a rational decision.
Thanks guys (future peers?).

Re: U of San Diego Fall 2010
Interesting, although it's not an additional school, just UCSD taking over CA Western a la Penn State and Mich State (as discussed in the article). The last thing the world needs is an additional law school!
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
