Interesting, although it's not an additional school, just UCSD taking over CA Western a la Penn State and Mich State (as discussed in the article). The last thing the world needs is an additional law school!
Hmm, interesting to note, thanks Bissey.
It would be hard pressed to turn into something as competitive as USD in San Diego's job market though... correct? Any locals want to weigh in on that?

Surprised by my fairly low offer from SD...lower than all of my other offers, and SD is my lowest ranked school so I figured it would be higher or at least equal.

I am 3.48/164....nothing spectacular but I received 50% scholly from Wake, Pepperdine, and Cardozo ranging from $18-23K...obviously all 3 schools are higher ranked than SD, so I was hoping that meant I would get 75% from SD or at least the same 50% since I really would love to go there...they offered me $15k...which I don't think even covers half tuition....guess I have to negotiate A LOT!

Weird. Got offered 23k, and I'm 3.61/161. It's very little considering how much their tuition and living costs are.

That's 23K/year? or total? are you a PT app? Anyone know if they're going to be getting scholly notification to PT apps?

Just first year, FT. They were vague on the terms for renewal.
EDIT: Rereading the letter:
"In future years you will be eligible for consideration for available scholarships including your academic achievement scholarships and USD private scholarships, as well as other
Types of Financial Aid for which you qualify."

Same here! I want to buy flight tickets for march admitted students day but I cant buy them till I know what school Im headed too and I need to hear about $$ for that to happen.
What are peoples thoughts on the likely hood of high salary jobs in San Diego, as a USD law grad? I know the legal market in San Diego isnt huge. But do you think there is a better chance because USD is the best school in the region (versus a bigger market that has bigger competition)?

Me too! I am torn between USD and UC Hasting, but all this waiting is making Hastings look better and better.

It's not just the waiting. It is also the sending of an evelope from admissions that only contains forms for FAFSA. Waiting AND teasing. Come on San Diego!

Got my acceptance packet in the mail today. No mention of scholarship, not surprising after reading this thread.

Received scholly info in the mail today!
The amount was lower than expected but I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that it didn't seem to come with any renewal conditions besides filing "appropriate paperwork in a timely manner".
$22K/year
~3.4 GPA and LSAT in the high 160s
I have a special place in my heart for San Diego (the city) so this is making things interesting.
Do you guys think conditional scholarships that require you to stay in top 30% or 25% are worth the risk? If you don't make top 30% then you are screwed.. You lose all scholarship money AND your job prospects go down the drain at the same time. I guess it will motivate you to study harder knowing that tens and thousands of dollars are on the line.. but it just seems like it will add more stress to the law school experience.

Did the scholly letter say it was renewable, or simply that you'd be considered for future scholarships on the basis of your merits and achievements?

It explicitly says that it is renewable for the remaining two years provided that I "continue to establish financial need" and that I "file the appropriate paperwork in a timely manner". Nothing about merits or achievements.
edited: clarified that scholly is actually a grant
