Also, there is a difference between a priority waitlist and a regular waitlist. I don't know a ton about the waitlist process here, but I do know from last year's threads it's abundantly obvious if you are on the priority or regular waitlist.

I have friends here who got in off the regular waitlist, so it's certainly not a kiss of death or anything like that.

I just got my priority waitlist letter today. The first sentence is
I am please to inform you that the Admissions Committee has placed you on a very special Priority Waiting List for the Class of 2013 at the University of Richmond School of Law.
It also has a P.S. encouraging you to send your FAFSA because they are "fairly optimistic about being able to admit you from our special Priority Wait List." I called them to make sure that there was actually two waiting lists. The woman that I talked to informed that there are only around 20 people on the Priority Wait List, so it sounds to me like some people'll still get off of the regular list.

It's down to U of R and Catholic, and my fingers are so crossed that they're practically french braided.

Priority WL for me as well. Hoping good news otherwise I'll either spend my next three years in the City of Brotherly Love or on the beach in Miami.

Nice to hear that only 20 ppl are on the PWL.....

I hear you. I really hope that was accurate, but when I asked if Priority Wait List was akin to the tiny trophy everyone gets in baby soccer, the woman I talked to said that no, it is in fact a very nice shiny trophy. That bodes well.

Yes, May 21st is Deposited Students Day. I am very close to sending in my deposit to Richmond, but I'm waiting to hear back from a couple more places (UNC and UMD). I have an appointment to visit UR and sit in on a class (Criminal Law with Bacigle) the first week in April, so I'm hoping that really seals the deal for me. Speaking to the admissions department yesterday they also confirmed that scholarship decisions should all be out by April 1st.

I'm also considering Catholic, like a few others on this thread. I wouldn't really be considering it if it weren't for the renewable $15,000 scholarship they offered me the other day. Any thoughts on whether it would be worth it to go to a lower ranked school in DC as opposed to Richmond? My gut feeling is no, but I need to give it a chance because of the money.

Have you checked the requirements for keeping the Catholic scholarship? They offered me a substantial one that really impressed me, but then I saw that I would have to stay top 25% to keep it. Plus, with their high cost of living and tuition, it really kind just made them equal to other schools.

Where do you want to practice?

PWL...

20 people sounds like a lot considering the class sizes are only about 155. Not sure [i]everyone/i] will get off it, but I hope so..

Anyone have an idea how big the non-priority version of the waitlist is?? Considering how much optimism was exuded in the letter, I was optimistic before hearing about the priority section...

Apper- I have considered the Catholic scholarship requirements. I just feel like I have to give the school a chance before I make a final decision since I haven't heard anything yet from Richmond about money. I'm going to sit in on a class there and take a tour as well, so we'll see how that goes. I would ultimately like to practice in DC, so either school should be able to provide that opportunity.

I hope it isn't that large. I am on the regular waitlist, but yea, the letter sounded so optimistic.

I have what might be a stupid question. I just received my financial aid package from UR with all my loan information enclosed. If I was going to be offered a scholarship, would it have been in that packet or would it be mailed separately? Any scholarship recipients on here that might know?

Scholarship recipients get a letter in the mail with the amount offered along with a commitment letter to sign. So if you got that, the money would be reflected in your Financial Aid package.

If it's not there and you did not get the aforementioned letter, then you didn't get a scholly. Better contact admissions if that is an issue.

that's 'deposited students day'. probably very much the same as an ASW at other schools.

deadline for their response was April 1 st. I understand that if you were invited chances of getting it are mighty high.

In my experience they have been a little disorganized - e.g. they forgot to invite me via email until like Jan 23rd, when I reminded them, so I had to write an essay very quickly. I think at this point you can call them tomorrow and ask them about the status of your JM application.

Just a heads up, I am currently on the priority wait list and called Richmond this week to see if there was any movement yet. The lady I spoke to on the phone said that there were about 150 people on the wait list (including priority) but wouldn't say how many were on the priority list. She indicated that there were a number of people who never responded to the wait list and that there should be movement soon.
