You should call and ask them what the deal is. That's just ridiculous.

Yeah dead serious. I just put in a seat deposit at Duke so I'm not too upset, it is more amusing than anything else at this point.dhg5004 wrote:lol are you serious? they totally lost your application then. have you called them? I'm not 100% sure but I spoke to someone at the admissoins office about the May program and how they could possibly let you know a week before classes begin. She made it seem as though the deposit is simply due before classes start...Does anyone know what the deposit date for the May-entry program is?
I'd just call someone at the admissions office they'd be able to give you a straight answer right away.

I got WL'd for FT entry, then go accepted for May entry - the deposit deadline was today for me.
However, I got that deferred to January entrance.

Cardozo has pretty much maintained the upper T2/lower T1 position for the last five years. At least they are inching closer to Fordham each year.

The clerkship stats are awful though, which really concerns me. I hope its just that everyone wants private practice, and not that the degree doesn't carry weight with judges.

Re: Cardozo 2010
the fact that cardozo is officially tier two means nothing. rankings dont mean much when you get this low, and to be honest, even when they are high rankings they dont mean much, although i guess if i went to NYU I would want bragging rights over columbia for example, the bottom line is that the same places that want to recruit at cardozo will do it anyway regardless of whether or not its ranked 60 or 40, so sure, it sucks in that you cant say tier 1 school, but if thats the reason your going to school then you have other problems....

Ditto on that. I am not a Cardozo troll, but from what I've heard it's a strong school with some real dynamic faculty and a solid local rep. (recent downturn notwithstanding). Maybe it's best to just think of it for now as #50 (ish). Like the other guy said, at the borderline for the last several years. I can see how in the minds of students —those whose interest in part drives the school's selectivity— going from a number that starts with a 4 to a number that starts with a 5 may have a cosmetic effect. $2.02 looks less appealing than $1.99. But unless the school takes a real dive, a la GW last year or if it moves even two spots in the highly contested battleground of the T-14 (see Boalt, this year), then the Tier two thing is a semantic issue only.itsfine wrote:the fact that cardozo is officially tier two means nothing. rankings dont mean much when you get this low, and to be honest, even when they are high rankings they dont mean much, although i guess if i went to NYU I would want bragging rights over columbia for example, the bottom line is that the same places that want to recruit at cardozo will do it anyway regardless of whether or not its ranked 60 or 40, so sure, it sucks in that you cant say tier 1 school, but if thats the reason your going to school then you have other problems....

Re: Cardozo 2010
btw, has there been any action for those of you on hold? On March 26, I received an email saying, basically, we like you but we can't do anything right now. Hang in there. Then, in early April they said that at April 12 something would happen, and they wanted to gauge my interest again.
Does anybody have any reason why I can expect movement v. soon, or are we still in an... er... holding pattern?

Is anyone here still waiting for a FT response? I fucked up and didn't realize I needed to mail them a Dean's letter until late in the game, but I've been complete for over two weeks. Not a long time at all, especially compared to the person that who is still waiting after submitting his application in October, but after reading they were supposedly out of spots, it gives me a small glimmer of hope.

Re: Cardozo 2010
+1...I personally made the choice to attend Cardozo over Fordham. Yes, its partly for scholly considerations. Mostly it was the excellent clinical program, the amazing faculty, and the school's philosophy. I think the downward shift of Fordham in the past two years is more concerning then a move from 49-52. Truthfully, the rankings are not that big of deal: both of these schools have good placement in NY area. Sure, Fordham does place higher at top 250 firms, but with this economic environment it may be more about your class rank then ever before, and I am questioning how far the Fordham name will get you these days.tommytahoe wrote:Ditto on that. Re: Cardozo 2010
Fordham is only inching toward them because of the part-time program which is being made smaller so they should go up in the rankings next year. With that being said, no matter what tier Cardozo is it will still be considered the fourth-best school in a huge legal market so unless it slips drastically (like 20 spots or something), it doesnt matter whether its tier 1 or tier 2 its still a good investment in my opinion. (Which probably means nothing since I am an 0L)zimbadimp wrote:More like Fordham is inching toward them.
