Re: Washington and Lee
I also get the sense that it's systematically under ranked by USNWR, particularly in recent years. How does a school go from 19th to 30th in 6 years? (Remind anyone of the GW plummet from 20th to 28th?) Seems unlikely that the quality is any different...kalvano wrote:I would have applied anyway. It seems to be a consistently good T30 school with good placement and opportunities after graduation, in a relaxed environment where one can actually enjoy being in school.
Of course, the rankings obsessed culture of law school admissions means that applicants think less of the school than they did 5 years ago, even though nothing is fundamentally different about the place. Hence this inane comment from earlier in the thread:

I want to second this opinion...kalvano wrote:I would have applied anyway. It seems to be a consistently good T30 school with good placement and opportunities after graduation, in a relaxed environment where one can actually enjoy being in school.
I have a sibling that went to W&L - I was surprised when he made this choice, but I've been even more impressed his experience with the school. 1) He loved it. 2) He was hired by a top national law firm in their Pittsburgh branch, which is where he wanted to work. The law school is respected throughout the country. 3) He'd spent a summer clerking, & the judge wrote in her evaluation that he was one of the top law students she's ever had, demonstrating the strength/quality of the law school.

Re: Washington and Lee
This coming Wednesday. I'm in LA also and debating if I should beg off the afternoon of work to drive down. Leaning toward, but not certain - it'll be more important to see the campus than just meet some people out here. But I'd be interested to see WU with alumni down in SD (and why did they choose SD rather than LA)?savesthedayajb wrote:I'm in LA and I'd go if I got the invite uggh! When is the SD event?

Eh, no, not really near the top. I'd much rather end up in a big city, but I certainly wouldn't mind W&L. I'm a crazy splitter, so it's all going to depend on what else I get.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
