That's roughly 16% minority students... I guess that is a little on the low sideT14_Scholly wrote:Wow I didn't realize how white W&L is.

Re: Washington and Lee
If I remember correctly, they named the Class of 2012 the most diverse class they had ever had. I can only see it getting better and better with us.tonic12 wrote:They just named the first african american in the schools history editor in chief of law review.Hopefully they will become more diverse in the future.

Was it the first black law review editor or the first black student, who then became law review editor? I would be extremely surprised at the latter...tonic12 wrote:They just named the first african american in the schools history editor in chief of law review.Hopefully they will become more diverse in the future.

April's almost done given its the 21st.
You are right though. Three's a bit short till classes start.
I figured a move to Lexington beginning in August which is a little more than three.

Re: Washington and Lee
I read something interesting about W&L along these lines. They were actually the first college ever to give a college degree to a black student in the late 1700's. Then I read the messed up part, after that they didn't have another black student until the 1960's.SAE wrote:You never know with that town..pugalicious wrote:Was it the first black law review editor or the first black student, who then became law review editor? Re: Washington and Lee
They've obviously gone to great lengths to diversify and I spoke to current African-American, Jewish and gay students, all of whom said they loved it and didn't feel different than any other law students. That made me feel at ease about the subject as these people had no reason to lie and were enthusiastic about how much they enjoyed W&L.

Re: Washington and Lee
I just got an e-mail asking if I am still interested in attending W&L.
Do you think this means that they are seriously considering admitting me, or are they sending this to the entire waitlist? We are in the process of evaluating our enrollment situation; we anticipate that we’ll have a few seats open in our Class of 2013 and expect to be extending offers of admission to individuals on our waitlist next week. If you remain interested in attending W&L Law, please let me know by noon EST on Monday, April 26.

I'm on the the waitlist and didn't receive the email. I haven't kept in touch via LOCIs either. Did either of you visit the ASD for waitlisted applicants?

Re: Washington and Lee
I didn't visit for the Waitlist day OR send an LOCI.
Edit: i.e., I think they are checking to see if I'm alive. If you sent an LOCI or visited they know for sure you want to go.

Re: Washington and Lee
Washington and Lee admits people off of the waitlist in batches--check out the W&L waitlist group from 2009- haha, this exact conversation happened then and eventually they figred it out. We have the benefit of hindsight. They seem to ask groups of prospectives in batches, based on their desirability, before extending an offer. It is a way to keep yield high, even with regard to kids who are on the waitlist. That said...I didn't get the email so fuck, I was really hoping for an offer, and hoping for an early one at that. Congrats to whomever got it already.

See, this is what I love about W&L. So organized, yet courteous at the same time. I believe they're tied with UIUC for best admissions process in my book. Other offices wouldn't have to field nearly as many annoying calls and emails if they adopted a similar straight forward approach.
Already in, but good luck to waitlisters.
