Congrats Murph!

And jcougar... That is a tough one. Financially, Wisconsin all the way. But sometimes other factors trump financials, as they did in my case. I turned down a full ride at Illinois for 75k at WUSTL. Overall, I think I'm looking at about a 50k difference in debt. But my personal preference for market, coupled with my desire to get out of central Ililnois, really tipped the scales for me. This is tough personal decision, but from a financial standpoint and if biglaw is your goal, I don't think WUSTL is the winner.

Man JCougar.... I don't envy your decision. If you're not set on working in STL like romo, it's tough to justify $78,000 in debt.

I don't know if I agree here. I think if you know for sure you want to stay in the midwest, preferably Wisconsin, then go to UW, but if you're not 100% certain then you really need to think before you turn down WUSTL's offer. WUSTL is much more of a national school and they also will give you slightly better job prospects in the midwest. For me, when I graduate I care much more about the kind of job I get rather than the location, that's why I picked the higher ranked school. If you're willing to take the risk to have decent job prospects in the midwest, but something that may not be ideal for you then go with Wisconsin. If there is a certain kind of job you know you want to land once you graduate go to WUSTL hands down, they will give you a bigger foothold in markets all over and give you access to employers that Wisconsin's network maybe couldn't have.

That's awesome! (slaps self in face for not applying to Boalt)

wow...this is really cool...congrats.

romo,
looks like there is some T10 movement. are you still on the michigan waitlist?
Yeah I still am.

Island, congrats to you. You must have had a really incredible application and resume to overcome your numbers for Boalt. All the best to you! Have fun out in Cali!
If Michigan accepted you would you go?

But like regionality said... Wiscy isn't orders of magnitude worse than WUSTL outside of the midwest either. Not $78,000 worse.

That wasn't my point. My point was are you willing to take the risk of not getting your ideal job for 78k? I wouldn't, but I can't work a job I'm not passionate about.

Well, it's a moot point right now, cause I just got the $10K/year splitter scholly. I'll be making my deosit on Monday. :D

Must have been that blasted financial aid form. I'd make the deposit now, but I'm on the road up to Chapel Hill to visit my brother. Taking a break from driving now and sitting on Myrtle Beach.

Good luck to everyone else!!

I try not to think about this too much, because it would throw my entire life into turmoil and uncertainty for a week or two. I really have no idea.

I look at it as a "Cash Cab" analysis. I've made it to my destination (WUSTL) and I've gotten a good chunk of change for it. I'm all set to take it and go on my merry way, when the driver says, "Hey Michigan just called and said you can attend for sticker! Do you want to take what you've got now, or go double or nothin and risk it all?"

Michigan would represent a much better shot at biglaw, clerkships, national portability, etc., but I would be giving up a lot to give up WUSTL. I have a really good scholarship, I have a great apartment locked down, a roommate I really like, I love St. Louis and am stoked about living there this fall, I started a good relationship with the CSO, WUSTL is the better school for the city I want to practice in, etc. But more than anything, I am psychologically set on Wash U, and to completely shift gears would be very hard to do at this point.

If (big if) I get into Michigan off the waitlist, Wash U would probably have to throw a little more my way for me to pass on a T10. But the odds of me getting off the waitlist are slim, and I am really committed to Wash U (if you guys couldn't already tell :D )

They ask you to fill out the form once you are accepted.

Probably, I have deposited in full at Washington and Lee as well. Going to think about it for a week or two. I want to end up on the East Coast (withdrew with 45k from illinois) - anyone with thoughts?
