Re: Penn State 2010 application cycle
Got a call on Monday from the Dean offering a spot off the waitlist - didn't get an email - that I will most likely be turning down (162/3.2)

I'd say you have a very good chance. Apply as early as you can, that will help.

I am still playing the waiting game as well. Glad to hear people are getting off the list. Penn St is my #1 so hopefully I will be getting a call soon.

i've frequented this site and forum throughout the admissions process. to update those wondering whether their numbers might be good enough for acceptance off the psu waitlist this cycle, i've just been accepted off it on 05/19 w 157/3.7 (state college campus). though it is quite late to do it now, i feel as though the updates i made to my application and loci helped.
best of luck to those still waiting

Thanks for posting your stats. It is greatly appreciated and helpful. Would you mind answering whether you are a URM? And also, do you plan on accepting? It is good to hear that you feel your updated application materials helped.triathlete0128 wrote:i've frequented this site and forum throughout the admissions process. to update those wondering whether their numbers might be good enough for acceptance off the psu waitlist this cycle, i've just been accepted off it on 05/19 w 157/3.7 (state college campus). though it is quite late to do it now, i feel as though the updates i made to my application and loci helped.

Re: Penn State 2010 application cycle
nope, not a URM. (white/male)
i don't really think it was my lsat score that got me in. i had one (of 2) solid rec letter and a hilarious/bizarre personal statement (in retrospect). when i was waitlisted, i immediately sent in any and all updates i could add to my application (public service and charity work, graduating with honors, etc) in an attempt to make myself a more appealing candidate.
i think penn state dickinson is a great school and will continue its climb in the upcoming years (for instance, i know a 3L who graduated from my undergrad, had my same major, GPA, and LSAT and was offered a scholarship when he applied...whereas I got off the waitlist (barely, since its now the end of MAY!!?)). They are definitely more selective now.
I'll be heading there this fall

I'm on the waitlist and out of state. Anyone have an opinion on whether a campus visit would be beneficial?

It might help you decide whether you really like the school and want to ride out the waitlist, but I don't think it will help your admissions prospects that much.jrjd28 wrote:I'm on the waitlist and out of state. Anyone have an opinion on whether a campus visit would be beneficial?

Re: Penn State 2010 application cycle
If you look at law school numbers, you would get in with a 160 and your GPA (everyone with a 3.2+ and a 160 got in). It looks like probably not with a 158/9 and your GPA. I think you might be considered a URM though...I think the correct procedure is to call the school and ask if you are unsure (not sure about this since I am not a URM). If you are considered a URM, however, the predictions become tougher. This is all hypothetical without a real LSAT score.am060459 wrote:am060459 wrote:since the cycle is done, i want to know what my chances are at Penn State. my LSDAS gpa is a 3.24 and my current PT average is a 158/159 (fighting for a 160+ in june). since im taking the june lsat i will have my apps in early.

Search this website, law school predictor, LSN, and LSAC for a general idea. Also, this cycle it seems was a little tougher than usual. I am waitlisted at PSU and would love to get in. Study hard for the LSAT...I have learned the hard way that every point counts!

Re: Penn State 2010 application cycle
thanks. on the topic of URM status, i called LSAC (a while ago) and they told me that if you apply to a school and you are underrepresented, then a school call qualify you as a URM or at the least give you a little boost.am060459 wrote:If you look at law school numbers, you would get in with a 160 and your GPA (everyone with a 3.2+ and a 160 got in). Sure, no prob. 158 and 3.5ish. I also had a little help from a phone call via someone who has some pull at Penn State. Ha, every little bit helps.longroad wrote:Congratulations! Would you mind sharing your stats? Do you plan on accepting?BruceBarr wrote:Got offered spot off the waitlist tonight.

Where is everyone living? I found a couple houses... one is three miles out and has a garage, deck, and two bedrooms. It's pretty awesome. It would only be 600 a month per person... anyone interested?

Im living in the White Course apartments on campus. They are $900 a month, but its all inclusive and close so I think it will work out for the first year.

Re: Penn State 2010 application cycle
I applied a while ago, just after the Open House in UP that was in March. I got offered a lease in late April sometime. I didn't have any trouble getting one of the 1 bedroom family apartments they offer.BruceBarr wrote:How did you get in? I have a friend with the same predicament. You think it's worth saying yes to bide time till the 30th while you wait on your priority school?AirenAdamonis wrote:got in off the waitlist on friday and have to give an answer by tomorrow at 2pm and pay a $1000 deposit by june 30th...i'm on the priority waitlist at my top choice so i'm not sure what to do!

Re: Penn State 2010 application cycle
Yeah maybe. However, I spoke with the Dean of the school that I'm waiting to hear from and they said that I probably won't hear back until July 5 but that I have an excellent chance of being accepted. Such bad timing...ugh.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
