I don't know what kind of money you are making, but I just checked out the rental rates for 2400 M street. 2600 a month for their cheapest 1 bedroom, 1810 a month for the cheapest studio.

Also, I looked at 5 or 6 places in Ballston and Crystal City, and they were all at least 1600-1700 a month for a 1 bedroom.

I guess I was naive, but I was hoping to find apartments under 1000 a month in VA without having to bring my car or take a 45 minute bus+metro trip one way.
How are you all going to pay for your housing??
Get a roommate. Seriously, as someone who's lived in the city for 6+ years, you'll have to so you can afford decent DC (or NOVA) housing. Another option might be a house in Shaw or Columbia Heights or Eastern Market. I have several friends living in all these neighborhoods in group homes, spending about $1000/month each. More like a 20-30 minute commute to campus, but you won't need a car and it sounds like a better option in your price range.

EDIT for clarity (not so hot with my typing skills today)
When I meant not too bad, I meant with a roommate (plus prices have probably gone up). Almost everyone I know who lives in DC (in their early twenties) has one.

I will have a roommate. I meant I wanted to keep it around 1000 for both of us (500 each). Its not happening, I know...I'm spoiled by my current unbelievably low cost of living. :(

Aww, haha yeah not in or anywhere around DC for a $1,000 for a 2/2 (or 1 even).

My roommate is my SO so a 1 or even an efficiency would have been doable...

For those waitlisted:

Are you waiting till April to write your LOCI or are you sending it in right now, asap? The letter said they don't start going through the WL until April, so... just wondering what the general consensus is here...

I'll probably do a LOCI soon, then send over an extra LOR when it gets closer to April, just to keep something fresh in my file.

Hey guys... sorry if this is a dumb question, but if you got an email to an admitted students event, does that mean you have been admitted? I haven't gotten anything in the mail but I got an email today inviting me to the event.

Probably. That's how I found out I got into Lewis and Clark (more or less), as their mailing was never delivered. Just call them up and say, "Hey, I got this email about an admitted students event, but I haven't received any notice of admissions. What's that mean?" They are pretty awesome at GW's admissions office, and I'm sure they could let you know over the phone.

This will be my situation (if all goes as planned) in January. I was hoping for a 1 BR but it just might not be feasible. A studio can work alright... right? I don't like the idea of not having anywhere to retreat. haha.

Unless you're rarely home, a studio for two people is pretty much an awful idea.

has anyone tried negotiating scholly info with GW? What do you think they would consider peer schools?

I dont think they feel that other 25-35 schools are on par with them and most of the the lower 15-25 range has very different primary bases for recruitment (midwest, boston, cali etc).

I would assume they dont care about W&L or W&M and at the same time find UCLA/USC/WUSTL/UIUC/ND/BC/BU schollys a bit irrelevant. The only two that make any sense to me are Vandy and Emory

GW does not negotiate or match. I've tried with peer and higher schools.

In !!! 161/3.93
Received a letter inviting me to the admitted students reception, so I called GW to see if that meant I was accepted. Admissions office said the decision was made earlier this week, and the acceptance letter was in the mail.

So if we haven't received a scholarship notification, does that mean we're out? I was hoping to try to negotiate with them from some other scholarships I've received (ND, W&M, BU, WUSTL), but if I'm out and they won't negotiate, I guess I'll just withdraw.

GW waitlist is still not sitting well with me. I thought I had a strong application and that's why I got into higher ranked schools. Could they have spotted something others passed over?

Were the higher ranked schools that you got into in the T14? If not, then I wouldn't be too surprised. Based on LSAT/GPA alone, GW's numbers are better than any other school ranked higher than 20. It's pretty common for someone to get into, say, BU while getting waitlisted by GW.

I got in, but I'm not sure if I'm going. I don't have any other acceptances (yet, I hope), so it's not like I can withdraw. Trying to stay in California.

UCLA UG, 169, 3.4

not really sure what else anyone can say without reading your app. I think all you can do is be happy about your acceptances and move on. Unless you have some dying love for GW, then LOCI it up and hope for the best

Just back from a lovely week long vaca to be greeted by....a WL letter. :(

ED-deferred, PT-only applicant. 166/3.7 w/legal experience

Not that I was a lock for PT, but adds to my suspicion that they are DRASTICALLY cutting the PT program. Damn you rankings!

Seeing previous comments on GW's WL acceptance rate, thinking I have a better shot on Georgetown's "select group" Preferred WL, at this point. :?:

i believe im in one of the toughest WL positions possible. I applied for PT with 159/3.33 thinking I was an auto-reject, hoping for a miracle and got waitlisted.

I'm getting worried since everyone else who got WL have high numbers. anyone know if the WL pools for FT and PT are different?

For everyone on the WL, I know it sucks but I would say try to be patient; as we all know, GW extends tons of offers to people with higher numbers to try to lure them away from the T-14, and most of those people withdraw. In a month or so I'm sure a lot of spots on the WL will open up, because the GW 1L class is always huge anyway.

Are there any other part-timers out there? I haven't heard from many who have recieved acceptances.

Also, how long did it take between submitting and getting a confirmation/status checker access? I sent out a bunch of apps last week and GW is the only one that has not sent me anything back.
