Hey everybody, I'm on the waitlist at GW and wanted to posit some questions for you all. Would it be advisable to send in an LOCI this early? My writing is very strong, and I believe it will make me stand out.

Stand out when compared to the thousands of other applicants with equally strong writing skills?

LSN says yes.

There are a few 167-169s who got the 105K (30K/yr plus a year of housing) offer on LSN. I don't see any offers aside from those and the full-ride ED scholarships, so maybe their smaller offers haven't gone out yet?

Hard to know.

Does it seem like they're just sending out decisions continuously now? If people are still receiving decisions, it seems unlikely that all the letters were mailed on 1/19 or 1/20.

I wonder if it could be a good idea to send the optional essay in now if you were waitlisted and didn't write it the first time around?

Any other admitted student get an email from a current student willing to answer any questions you have about the school? I though this was pretty awesome.

I did too! I appreciated it. I also got a phone call from a current student from William & Mary, which was cool and weird at the same time.

Anyone familiar with how GW has handled "nontraditional" applicants in the past? I have unimpressive numbers (3.6 biology while working 40hrs/week, low 160s), but extensive leadership, strong research experience, solid LORs, publications in premier scientific journals (looking to go into IP law). I am not URM either. Obsessing I won't get in bc of my tragic numbers.....argh

I saw on the LSN several my LSAT/GPA twins were rejected by GWU. I still heard nothing. What's more, other schools I applied also rejected or waitlisted my LSAT/GPA twins. I still heard nothing. Why? I give those law schools such a hard time and they even did not bother to reject or waitlist me? I feel so awful.

Does anyone have a sense of the difference between being deferred from ED and being waitlisted at GW?

Well, there are two ways of being deffered from ED at GW. In the first they admit you RD in the same mailing that defers you from ED, so I'm guessing you're refering to the one that many of us, including myself, got, which said that we were deferred and we would get a decision in 4 to 6 weeks (2 to 4 weeks at this point).

I think its hard to judge. Considering that we got no anecdotes of people being rejected straight up out of ED (at least none that I saw), I don't think it means the same as being deferred by schools that have rejected people from early programs. It could just be a way to string us along in order to softly reject us, or we could receive an admit or wait list down the line. Difficult to get a read on it at this point.

I think the general thought on deferral v. waitlist is that the deferral is a little better, because you still get a review in the near future, but could always be put on the WL after that

I think this depends on what your numbers are.

If you have competitive numbers then:

Accp > Deferral > WL > Ding

but if your numbers are not that strong then a deferral might just be a soft rejection.

i think it will help that you've been published, that's kind of a big deal ... at least, it definitely helps for med school so i'm assuming it will help for this too. i'm jealous, i want my name in print!
