Do you guys think think that the numbers of people on the WL will affect the numbers ND reports to US News if those students are accepted? For example, if John Doe has a 1.0 GPA and a 120 LSAT and gets accepted off the WL, will his numbers affect the median they have already established with the students they have admitted?
of course it'll affect the medians. medians are decided on everyone who decides to attend. although the effect might be very very minimal depending on how many people near the 25th and 75th have near similar stats.
example: 160/163/165 -> if you add a 155 the 25% will be down to 157.5 (from 160) and 75% will go down to 164 (from 165)
example: 160/160/163/163/165/165 -> if you add a 155 the median will remain the same (163). and the 25% and 75% stays the same as well.
waitlists are usually used to pad the numbers at the last minute, or to make sure it remains constant. hence splitters and reverse splitters are usually waiting until the end.
