Im going for sure. I have a bunch of questions that I was going to just email admissions about, but I guess Ill ask here first:

So looking at a bunch of places there are a bunch in 'mishawaka' or 'elkhart' along with south bend. Are any of these places equally acceptable? Does it not matter as we will have asw stuff to do the entire time/drink? Would I need to rent a car to get around?

Mishawaka should be fine, but Elkhart is quite far away. I am not applying anywhere this cycle, but I am a native of South Bend. Feel free to ask anything else.

Sorry if this has been mentioned. I didnt want to read 45 pages right now.

Anyone hear from the waitlist? Ive been on it since November.

Also, do they frown upon me paying a seat deposit elsewhere, cause I want a secure place if I don't get off the waitlist.

What do you think of South Bend aside from the campus itself? Is it as bad as people make it out to be?

also, do you golf? How's that whole situation? I hear Warren is pretty nice.

South Bend is not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. I will be honest and say there is not much going on here in terms of culture. This is not a school in Chicago or NYC or Boston, but the town itself is not terrible. Though I have lived here my whole life, I have traveled alot throughout the US for about 5 years doing sales. If you are someone who must be entertained by the nightlife or by random bands showing up in town every weekend you will be quite disappointed. If you just want to go to a place that has a "small town" feel and yet has some things to do (decent retaurants, OK bars, an average theatre) then this is your place. The real question I always pose to people who are worried about going to schools here is, what sort of social life do you think you will have during law school? My understanding is that there may not be much time for that anyway. Hope I was able to help you out with the general feel for the city...if you have more specific questions let me know.

I do golf, but I am awful. Many of my friends golf around the area and do not normally complain. The one complaint I would say I hear more often than anything else is the lack of variety in quality PUBLIC courses. There is the Warren (very nice course, but pricey), there is Blackthorne (public course, but normally packed on nice spring/summer days) and Eberhart (which is a nice public course in Mishawaka) but that is only a 9 hole course. There are a few private courses in town, but you probably will never get to golf on them. SB Country Club and Morris Park CC are both very nice, MPCC is the best in the area. If you care to drive more out of town(45 mins or so), there are other courses which are cheap and less populated during prime time, but I would pick a wait at Blackthorne over a drive to one of those myself.

One other think about that, people point to the abortion protesters when President Obama spoke at ND. Those people were largely not from the SB area and were from throughout the country (like Alan Keyes). The SB area is definately more conservative on social issues, but I assure you if you are looking for liberal friends ND(and South Bend) has those in plentiful supply. It is a Democrat party controlled city, but they are Indiana Democrats, not national ones.

I am also curious about this...Want ND but planning to throw in my deposit elsewhere for now...have also been on the waitlist since November

I am pretty sure they don't frown upon it, but you would forego your deposit.

how many people are assigned to the waitlist...any ideas?

It's in my LSN profile, which is linked to my TLS profile. Yes, that took much more effort for me to type than just telling you that my sent and complete dates are just a tiny bit later than cardinalrule.

I'm staying at the Quality Inn University
515 North Dixieway, South Bend, IN, US, 46637
Phone: (574) 272-6600

The Inn provides free shuttle service back and forth to the airport and to campus, so I will not be renting a car. I was able to get a room for $45/night with my AAA discount.

WL today, numbers are in profile.
It seems like they aren't even going to look at the WL again until late spring and summer months.

I'm still waiting to hear anything. 167/3.38, strong softs. I can't even tell what my chances are at this point. Does anyone want to speculate for me?

When did you apply? It might be worth a call to check up on it?

FWIW, I got 20K a year w/ similar-ish stats - 3.45/168. Grain of salt and all that though... Check out ND's LSN graph - there's no rhyme nor reason to their decisions. My guess is you're either accepted or WL, depending on some random gut feeling the adcom has about you and your Why ND.

GOOD LUCK!

ND really does the holistic approach that everyone CLAIMS to do

I got $25k a year with 169/3.05 back in January and I have to assume its because I'm a Peace Corps Volunteer with a good PC related personal statement

in fact I even screwed up and sent in a diversity statement instead of the optional 'Why Notre Dame?' essay.

I applied pretty late (early/mid Jan). I just called the admissions office and they informed me that it's taking a lot longer this year - 10 to 12 weeks. Blah.

WL on 03/12 according to the letter. Withdrew via online form. I'm a bit surprised, but the waitlists do seem to be all over the place. I thought I'd have a good shot (WE, lots of experience with Catholic organizations on my resume....even though I'm an agnostic now, from the area, wrote a Why ND?, etc...), but with IU giving me a full ride I think that the midwest has been spoken for.

Do any of you have any experience with negotiating scholarships with ND?

I received nice scholarship packages from them and Illinois, but Illinios' is fairly larger and I would receive in-state tuition also. ITE everything seems to be coming down to money.

Any insight is appreciated.
