the issue is that law school students = +$$$$ for school (through tuition and alumni donations) while phd = -$$$$ (costs of fellowship/ra/ta, facilities, labs, etc)

there is a strong monetary incentive to have a class of 900 law students and 5 PhD english students

I applied to 13 schools, BU/BC/Cornell are my three top choices....

Guess which 3 schools I'm not complete at?

FML FML FML
Did you do EA at BC and Cornell?
I didn't EA at BC, because I thought it was 11/1, turns out I was wrong, didn't find it out until after the fact. Didn't EA at Cornell because I got scared. I read that article with the Duke Dean who said early applicants faced stricter scrutiny. Though I doubt it applies to Cornell, it spooked me and I didn't check the box.

agreed (for academia... the market for PhDs outside of academia is a totally different story), but you would still be getting a JD, not a PhD, and thus not forced into academia (as you are with most PhD programs).

...and i thought it was really nice... :?

I like the fact that it presupposes lack of research into what law school will look like (which is pretty true).

At any rate, I like BU. I went and visited, and despite the billion story building that is the law school, it seemed like a genuinely nice place to be. I love Boston and now that it seems that Harvard is not going to happen, it seems like it may be a fun alternative (with scholarship  )
