+1. If Plessy (can I call you "Plessy"?) is indicative of the rest of the faculty and staff, I'd be quite happy attending UIUC.

The UIUC staff was very nice when I visited earlier this semester. I didn't get to meet with Dean Pless, but "the Pats" as I heard them referred to, were nice, and the student who I toured with (who is also a TLSer) was helpful. The atmosphere, for lack of a better word, was very midwestern.

Here's to hoping for an acceptance (whenever I go under review!).

Dean Pless (and anyone else who wants to weigh in),

What percentage of applicants write the optional "Why Illinois" essay? How much consideration is that essay given?

Thanks!

Please don't call him Plessy. The man is worthy of some respect for his dedication.....at home with a sick child and still manages to post on TLS,

Oh jeez. Spare me the indignation. ccs1702 obviously meant it as a term of endearment, not disrespect. Does it sound kind of lame and a little unprofessional? Sure.

Thanks. Clearly, I meant absolutely no disrespect. I genuinely appreciate the effort he makes to engage with his prospective students.

I think the non-drama queens on TLS got the right import.

Let's hope so. Sometimes they're hard to come by.

This is the first year of the optional essay. Currently, 70% of applicants are submitting the additional essay. Every part of the file is given a careful review. With a free application this year I thought it would make sense to have simple additional step for an applicant to show they are truly interested in the College. I like people that are interested.

We can calm down a bit with the how wonderful I am. I am lucky in that I like my job and this is a great way for me to interact with more people interested in going to law school. I get as much out of this as you guys do. That being said, I much prefer Paul to "Plessy".

Minor Update.

We are going to change our online status checker from "File Complete, Review Pending" to "File Complete, Not in Review" to clear up some of the confusion.

I'm kind of happy I wrote the Why Illinois essay now. Anything that serves to indicate that UIUC is my first choice is good. :)

Thank you for the updates and info, Dean Pless.

Maybe "not yet in review?" The "not in review" might leave people wondering if it WAS in review at some point.

Hmmm...I guess I will be submitting an additional essay to add to my application in the coming weeks. 70% is a lot!

I was kind of surprised at the percentage myself. As of this morning we had 1649 applications.

I'm surprised by that number. With the sharp increase in lsat test takers I thought it would be around 2500 or so by now.

Is a 163 LSAT any good? Any difference between that and say a 165?

What kind of question is this? Of course there is a difference. I believe its the 88th percentile versus the 92nd
