Got my jump drive today. It really kicks WUSTL's jump drive's ass. This thing is impressive! And the box was a nice touch. I have been so impressed with UIUC this application cycle. Thanks for everything, Dean Pless.

Holly, I am glad you liked it.

Emails are going out about financial aid/loans.

Dean Pless,

Does Illinois offer any sort of research/teaching assistant opportunities which could reduce the cost of attendance?

We have those, but they are decided on by individual faculty members and thus are not part of the normal financial aid process.

That is understandable. What is the prevalence of such positions and is there someone I should contact for information regarding becoming a research/teaching assistant?

There are a fair number of them, but they only go to 2L's and 3L's. The professors hire people based, normally, on performance in the class room and a mutual interest in a particular research area.

What is the sort of financial compensation for that sort of position? Are they per semester or per year? Sorry for all the questions! Just trying to get my facts straight as Illinois is a place I'd really like to be this fall.

It is typically hourly and varies quite a bit. Not more than 20 hours per week, with a rate of $15-$25 per hour. They usually are two year positions, but it depends on the project and the relationship with the faculty member.

Is this tuition number in the email in-state or did we get different numbers depending on our status?

It's $40,000 for out-of-state; around $33,000 is in-state.

Dean Pless,

Since the estimated CoA in the e-mail does not include a computer expense, are law students allowed to submit the computer budget increase form? If yes, are these usually approved, and how much of an increase are we allowed to request?

Thanks in advance.

I am opposed to what you just said, as well as the manner in which you said it

Edited for ignorance of TLS April Fools hilarity...

Original question still stands.

Dean Pless,

Any movement on the waitlist yet? In light of the withdrawn prospectives above, will you be making any offers soon?

Good luck all!
