It is relevant to admissions, at least when it comes to decisions. I cant wait to visit; I will at least be able to meet the alumni and dean Pless at the NYC regional event.

Dean Pless,

Do you know the fall orientation dates yet? I just want to know to make sure my move-in date will be prior to that.

Thanks!

I love crazy characters on a college campus. This guy is like a character out of Wise Blood.

This actually makes me more interested in Illinois.

Got my official acceptance letter today (yay!) but no thumb drive. I keep hearing about a 4GB thumb drive. Did you all get this with your acceptance packet or separately?

Wow, I didn't expect an answer from the Dean himself! Thank you, Dean Pless!

Does anyone know what the mandatory 1L classes are for fall and spring semester, respectively, or where we can get this
information?

Thanks for the response, Dean Pless.

Is there anywhere on the website that indicates the number of credits per class -- i.e. 6 credits for Civ Pro and 4 for Torts -- and the order in which they are supposed to be taken? Many schools have Torts and Civ Pro in the Fall, for example. Also, is there somewhere we can find the exact info for journal requirements -- sorry is this is threaded elsewhere.

Thanks again!

The 6 substantive courses are all 4 credit hours. The skills training courses are P/F with honors distinctions. The order of the 6 courses are random, you have LR/LW in the Fall and IA in the Spring. Journal membership is determined by a writing competition held in late May.

Visited Champaign and the school yesterday. I didn't get as many pictures as I'd hoped because it rained most of the day so I didn't do as much walking around as I thought I would. I did get some though, and I'll post them when I get back home - I forgot my camera cord.

Anyway, I was VERY impressed with the law building. It's really nice, or at least it is compared to some of the others I've visited. Nice and clean and new feeling. I got a tour from a current student, and she loves it there.

The town is definitely smaller than I'm used to, but it was very cute. The downtown area is nice and I guess they have a lot of the things you'll find in other college towns as far as a variety of places to eat, artsy stuff, music, and so on. I didn't get to experience a ton since I was just there for the day, but it seems quite promising.

As a former Illinois undergrad and an Illinois law hopeful, I am seriously upset about us not making the NCAA tourney. We didn't have a stellar season but I thought we had enough to be one of the last teams in and once in, I felt we could do some real damage. More than anything, I was hoping for a surprising Illini run to get me through the rest of this application cycle. Oh well, we have a great recruiting class coming in next year that I'm really looking forward to.

Oh, and to those who were looking for pictures of the school, I tried digging up some of my own photos but am still having a hard time locating them. In the meantime there are a bunch of great public photostreams on Flickr and Picasa:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/ericejohns ... otostream/ (6-7 detailed pics of the College of Law area)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/triangle_m ... otostream/ (nice shots of the law library)
http://picasaweb.google.com/auhgnist/20 ... IUCCampus# (general campus area...spelling mistake - the engineering library is 'Grainger' not 'Gringer')
http://picasaweb.google.com/gpuleo/UIUC# (more shots of the campus)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/oldtasty/11667810/sizes/l/ (and a last big shot of the law library)

It's not at all the same as visiting - the campus has its own energy that you have to visit to understand fully - but for those who won't be able to get out there, there are some good photo resources out there which will allow you to get a sense of the U of I campus.

Does anyone know what's the availability of employment during the school year for law students? I'm considering working part-time (if I have time) after my first year to offset a bit the cost of leaving. Does anyone have any insight on what kind of jobs can law students obtain on campus?

I'm curious, too.

I've definitely decided on Illinois. Anyone else?
