This is possible?AngryAvocado wrote:I'm pretty sure UVA is banking on several WL people to switch to ED. It's getting late in the cycle and people are getting pessimistic about their chances at CCN and want to lock up MVP. I really think it is as simple as that.
I've been complete since mid-November and I'm still without a decision.rockchalk86 wrote:Who has not been waitlisted or rejected and was complete in November or before? Show yourselves
I don't think so. I've been following this thread since I was waitlisted and this would be the first I've heard of it.booboo wrote:This is possible?AngryAvocado wrote:I'm pretty sure UVA is banking on several WL people to switch to ED. I was complete in very early December and have not heard anything.rockchalk86 wrote:Who has not been waitlisted or rejected and was complete in November or before? Show yourselves
Why wouldn't it be? Waitlist isn't technically a final decision, so just mail in the ED contract along with a short LOCI and that's that.beef wellington wrote:I don't think so. Why would you want to with CCN numbers out of curiosity?bwana73 wrote:waitlisted 175/3.52... FML
Can you switch to ED off of the WL?
So you're just assuming?AngryAvocado wrote:Why wouldn't it be? Yep. Basically that's what 90% of the 0Ls on TLS do anyway. Somebody should call admissions and see.beef wellington wrote: So you're just assuming?
It would be imbecilic for them not to allow it. What do they possibly lose?beef wellington wrote: So you're just assuming?
It's a horrible thing for an applicant to do. With that ED in hand, they can wait until May 1st, and then decide to accept you, after you have made a deposit to another school/decided to attend a school you're more interested in than UVA.AngryAvocado wrote:It would be imbecilic for them not to allow it. Isn't part of the ED contract that you'll get a decision within ten days or something?booboo wrote:It's a horrible thing for an applicant to do. This. Yes, UVA could get some mileage out of letting waitlisters ED this year. But it would come at a cost, as applicants in future years would have a huge incentive to not apply ED in October or November. Many applicants who would otherwise apply ED would apply RD and then just wait and see if they got accepted or waitlisted.beef wellington wrote:If one were able to "ED" off the WL, then there'd be no incentive to ED pre-WL unless you were a borderline reject.
You are correct, 15 days.beef wellington wrote:Isn't part of the ED contract that you'll get a decision within ten days or something?booboo wrote:It's a horrible thing for an applicant to do. Applied for the same reason. Most likely will withdraw as well.MSPeast wrote:Put on WL today. 3.6/171. Applied early December. Will probably withdraw since I only really applied bc of rank and fee waiver. I have no interest in living in Charlottesville, especially since I got my GULC admit. I want a city school!
Meh, they'll still have borderline applicants applying ED. This extension quite obviously wasn't designed to attract the borderline applicants who were dying to go to UVA; it was designed to catch a lot of the CCN hopefuls whose cycles didn't go as well as they had hoped for. The key for UVA is to actually keep giving some scholarships to EDers so that $$ isn't the major disincentive.Dignan wrote:This.
