+1 I found the clerkship email they sent today interesting.

Same here - got the email this afternoon, and got through to Mr. Faulk about two hours ago. Good news!! (although that email is pretty scary: "I want to discuss your application" - after 2.5+ months of being "under review," I was expecting something bad when I called)

Pfft. You're in at UVA, may as well withdraw from GULC now

Anyway, congrats!

It's not that normal from past behavior, but given your GPA I'll bet it's easily explained as "We want to admit this guy but we have to make sure he's still above 3.85 first". Since they're protecting their GPA median so strongly now I'd expect that to be what's up and for you to get an acceptance shortly thereafter (if you didn't tank it in the fall :P ).

Shit. Thats what I figured. 3.87-->3.83, 3.9 senior in college and I get a B in a gen-ed course that I put off. It was some adjunct and the course was a farse.

I tried to suggest in my response email a conditional acceptance. I didn't outright say it, because that takes cahones I don't have. I was basically like, if admitted I swear to God I'll graduate 3.86.

I want UVA soooooo bad.

That really sucks about the class, but best of luck. I'm rootin' for ya.

I'm so pissed about it. All the tests were open book. She had a bizzare attendance policy she enforced -5 points per absence out of a 500 point matrix, so a percent of your grade. I'm SGA prez, I have conferences, and meetings on campus, and she refused to excuse anything. I should have gone to the Dean, its too late now.

Wait, what's the significance of 3.85?

Look at the admissions graph on LSN, Under a 169, you don't get in below a 3.85, not white anyway.

3.85 is their GPA median and they are trying very hard to protect it. Nobody gets in with less than a 170 unless they have at least a 3.85 or some other highly compelling factor (read: URM).

The ABA has their median at 3.8.

That information is outdated. The Class of 2012 median is a 3.85. I would know, I'm in it.

http://www.law.virginia.edu/html/news/2009_fall/class_profile.htm?&ntype=csi

The Class of 2012 was chosen from the largest applicant pool in school history, and set new records for both academic qualifications and diversity, according to Admissions Office data.

The 368 enrolled students have a median LSAT score of 170 and a median undergraduate GPA of 3.85, up from 3.8 for the previous class.

Well, maybe I'll find my way off the waitlist in June if I pull out the 3.86

Anyone else in the same situation?

It looks like this is Judgement Week for UVA, according to last year. After that comes the waitlist train. Gulp.

I wonder if that will hold true given the new ED deadline. I hope so!

It might not hold true given "Snowmageddon."
