Doesn't that new government program create a pretty good LRAP for graduates in all schools? 10 years, 10% of income/yr, and no more debt? Would you get a better deal at Berkley?

No. But Berkeley's LRAP isn't contingent on spending ten years in PI. If you're going directly through the school, Berkeley's LRAP gives you the highest take-home income in the T14 aside from Stanford and Yale. UVA's is unfortunately one of the worst.

UVA is aware of their LRAP problems and is in the process of revising it significantly including a significant raise on the qualifying salary cap. I can try to find out next week what if any details are set, it's still a work in progress but I do know they're making big changes and plan to have an announcement by the end of this year.

Yeah, I saw something about that. Student aid seems to be the #1 priority in their current fund raising campaign. I'd be really interested in any details you can find.

Waitlisted 161/3.91. I guess I should be happy about not having been rejected. Any suggestions how I could improve my chances? Is the June LSAT an option? (I consistently scored above 165 in my prep tests but bombed the real one).

That would only work for sure if 1) you broke 170 and 2) they needed folks off the WL as late as July. Otherwise you might be better off either waiting a year and applying ED, or studying hard for the retake so you break 170 and reapply everywhere. That last one would make retaking much more worth it.

I'm in the same boat, waitlisted 163/3.85. I guess applicants whose numbers were somewhat flipped like ours were waitlisted.

I got the "application question" e-mail today, called back, and was accepted. He didn't mention anything about scholarship money. Does that mean I won't be getting any?

No, it just means it might be in a lesser amount.

Yeah, you'll have to wait to hear until March/April to find out about merit aid. I think that everyone who gets merit aid when they first hear is getting a Dean's Scholarship...they vary in amounts.

Full-tuition and some other large scholarship amounts are offered with the acceptance. Small/mid-size scholarship offers are typically mailed in March.

I'm debating switching my app to ED but commitment scares me. But UVA is a big reach, so I'd be lucky to get in...

+1... i feel like EDing might be my only way in this cycle, but i've never even been to the state of VA so I feel like it would be dumb to ED

Agreed. Unless you've visited and really know that's the place for you, it may not be a great decision to ED.

In addition unless you're 171+ or 3.95+ (either one) I don't think the chances ED would be that different than RD.

I have stats that fit right in the 3.6-3.8 172-173 gap on the LSN graph. My gut tells me I may get waitlisted as a form of YP, since my application has been under review forever.

So, should I assume since I am a 3.98/165 and went complete on 11/9, UVA is playing ED chicken with me? I love the school and would definitely consider attending but it's not my first choice. Although the chances of my getting into that first choice are really slim. Sigh.

I actually spoke with Mr. Faulk and he said that is totally untrue about large amounts not going out in March. He said they give out more full tuition scholarships in March than they do at the time of acceptance.

Well, that does fit with what I do know. I know they give out some full tuition scholarships at time of acceptance and that they give out all smaller scholarships in March. That doesn't preclude the possibility of them giving more full tuition scholarships in March also, I suppose, though I wasn't aware they gave that many that late.

Definitely Berkeley. But I'm a member of the non-FR, not rejected yet group. I don't really know what it means and, until I do, I don't want to ED to UVA just yet.

Your chances at Berkeley are probably pretty strong with those numbers. I'd recommend you stick it out to see what they say as long as possible. I think the ED deadline at UVA is March 1 now, so you've got time.

Berkeley has seemed to shift away from the GPA focus this year.
