I'm still waiting as well but I didn't update on 2/8, not sure if that is good or bad. Anyone know the story on the Why UVA? How important is it in the application? ND kind of important or really not going to make a difference?hannah87 wrote:hmmm, still nothing for me. i had the complete date update on 2/8 but no word today. i'm expecting a ding (168, 3.9, no Why UVA). why all the stringing along??

+1. 171, 3.75, no Why UVA. Probably should've written one, but the idea makes me want to vomit. GULC might end up being my only acceptance...hannah87 wrote:alright, i'm in, but boats make me sickbooboo wrote:+1...hannah87 wrote:hmmm, still nothing for me. i had the complete date update on 2/8 but no word today. i'm expecting a ding (168, 3.9, no Why UVA). why all the stringing along??

Last year there were people admitted off the WL, but it was so small you could count them on one hand. They are intentionally aiming to underenroll and fill using the WL this year (though they intended this last year too and overenrolled slightly anyway).Kronk wrote:Apparently it goes from 5-50 on any given year. The adcomms do consider last year a fluke and anticipate at least some WL movement this year.

Another reason to like UVA, they have students like vanwinkle who don't mind trying to calm panicking 0L's.vanwinkle wrote:Last year there were people admitted off the WL, but it was so small you could count them on one hand. Will a 'Why UVA, WHY?!?" essay help my chances on the waitlist?los blancos wrote:Hmm I'm going to send them a Why UVA sometime next week...

I should apply for scholarship funds next year on the basis of all the positive PR I generate for the school.booboo wrote:Another reason to like UVA, they have students like vanwinkle who don't mind trying to calm panicking 0L's.

Geez, I'm glad I lived through the bloodbath. I feel like I'm okay with my numbers (171/4), but I applied at the beginning of January and I hope there are still some spots (and $$) left.

Yeah, today was pretty brutal. Have they had a wave of RD Acceptances yet? Seems like it's more a handful of people here and a handful there.thickfreakness wrote:Geez, I'm glad I lived through the bloodbath. So if you have borderline numbers and didn't get waitlisted today, are we taking that as a good sign?

Re: UVA 2010, RD
I really need to get in somewhere before I go crazy. My only decisions so far have been WL at Duke and Chicago, held for further review at Georgetown, and straight up rejected at NYU despite ED (seriously, look at the LSN chart for NYU; my numbers stick out like a sore thumb).
I'm quickly becoming paranoid.

Re: UVA 2010, RD
I thought you were being quiet recently. That is pretty ridiculous and I stand by my previous claims that 172 3.5-3.8 is no man's land except for Duke/Georgetown or T25 $$. The Duke WL is surprising, too. You probably should have applied to some T25s or places where you want to practice, though.
edit: nvm looks like you did.

Re: UVA 2010, RD
Yeah I may not have been as prudent with safeties as I should have. I only applied to Pepperdine as a nod to my alma mater; I really can't see myself going there. I would hope that UCLA, USC, and Fordham are all relatively safe, and I could see myself settling for sub-t14 in LA or NY.DallasCowboy wrote:I thought you were being quiet recently.
