I know this is normally not a big deal, but I pretty much have to make a decision on where to go on how this works. UT and Vandy virtually gave me the same scholarship and I have to pay $1000 more at UT than Vandy. But if I can pay less in my 2nd and 3rd years at UT, I'm going with UT; if not, I'm going with Vandy. I like both schools a lot so it really comes down to whichever one I have to pay less at.
A few thousand bucks is negligible. Pick the school you like better, IMO.
Jazz, is there anything about UT that would sway you to take it over Duke? I haven't done too much research, but it seems like Duke's placement is significantly better... Does the NLJ250 underrate Texas firms (and thus UT placement)?
Well, UT is much less expensive. I may have missed it earlier in the thread, but what kind of scholarships have you received? Better yet, how much will you pay per year at each school? That's a better way to assess it since I don't know the cost of attendance for Duke. Having said that, Duke is probably a better school. I tend to agree with the US News rankings. Although, I think UT should be ahead of the other #15 schools and Georgetown (I just don't trust what they do with the part-time program).
I have purposely refrained from giving advice regarding UT vs. Duke because it's really a tough call. Duke is well respected, and it places well in the south. I personally was not interested in Duke because I fucking hate cold weather. Plus, I feel some pride in attending my home state's law school. Austin is a great place to live. Have you visited both schools? Also, I don't know if UT's placement suffers from underrated Texas firms or not. The one thing I will say is that my 1L job search is not going well, and my grades are very high. I am completely disgusted with the good-ol'- boy hiring network (I got no offer from V&E, and I know for a fact that they hired a 1L with a lower GPA than mine), and I am strongly considering a transfer to HYS.
