IN! Got the call yesterday and promptly made myself sound like a genius. I--ah--ha! That's awesome! I mean, that's great news. I mean, thanks very much. Yes!
I imagine that's how roughly every one of those calls go, though.

One of the best things about living abroad is not having to deal with these phone calls. I have absolutely no idea what I would say. Are they 10 second conversations? Do you just say "thanks, that's great news" and hang up? Sounds awkward. I'm glad UT talked to my mom instead of meshanejamin wrote:IN! Re: IN AT TEXAS!!!!!!! CLASS OF 2013!!
Last year I applied ED, but I was held over for RD. I decided to take the February LSAT in case I got waitlisted or something. About a week before the test, I stopped answering my phone or checking my mailbox so I could get into a mental zone for the test. Anyway, I retook the LSAT, and that night I started drinking pretty hard. Around midnight I got this email telling me how to log onto freshlaw. I was like, WTF? It turned out that my acceptance package had been in the mailbox for a week. So that's how I learned that I would be at UT this year.

Is it just me or has there been no activity with Texas for a long time now? They were turning decisions around very quickly early on. What happened?

Re: IN AT TEXAS!!!!!!! CLASS OF 2013!!
I just walked by the admissions office, and it seemed fairly empty. The secretary was there, but I didn't see Dean Ingram or any adcomms. Maybe they're on vacation until classes start next week. Then again, it was around lunch time when I walked by.hopefulincal wrote:Is it just me or has there been no activity with Texas for a long time now? Do you mean a scholarship you were awarded soon after being accepted or an offer you haven't received?talibkweli wrote:talibkweli wrote:freshlaw works now.

I haven't seen anything under the money tab indicating what scholarships one might have been given. I received one in the mail after I was accepted though.
Edit: If you're logged in using your id and you click on the "current students" page there is a ton of information. There is a "financial aid status" link but you have to do some stuff to see it (activate an e-fan, submit a fafsa, etc).

Since it's a publicly funded school, they can't matriculate more than 35% out of staters. But they admit hundreds of out of staters, and I think you have a good shot.tcam wrote:I appreciate your optimism

I'm curious; what happens if more than 35% of the group that chooses to attend is out-of-state? Do they defer some of them?JordynAsh wrote:Since it's a publicly funded school, they can't matriculate more than 35% out of staters. The admissions staff has stated that this has never been a problem, and that they wouldn't defer anyone.managamy wrote:I'm curious; what happens if more than 35% of the group that chooses to attend is out-of-state? Texas let me in!! I've been complete since 11/3 and am anxiously awaiting. I expect a decision rather soon, but as I'm a URM with very borderline numbers, I think I may have to keep waiting. But please let me in!

Anyone else get a hold email today? It said:
"Upon initial review of your application, the Admissions Committee
has decided to hold your file for additional consideration with the
general applicant pool. Your status as a "hold" should not be viewed
as a denial, a deferral, or an invitation to the waitlist."

Re: IN AT TEXAS!!!!!!! CLASS OF 2013!!
I got that e-mail in mid November, sent in a LOCI and additional letter of reccomendation mid December and my status hasn't changed yet. Albeit, I feel fortunate that it wasn't an outright rejection since my LSAT is considerably lower than UT's bottom 25%.

Any word on when people should start hearing back from the office if they were held over from ED?
Also, I didn't send a LOCI, as some have suggested it to be irrelevant. Perhaps I will.

Re: IN AT TEXAS!!!!!!! CLASS OF 2013!!
I sent one in along with another rec letter from a UT Alumna and Of Counsel at a biglaw firm. I know that probably won't do it for me, given the low LSAT, but at least it's worth a try. Hopefully Texas residency and high GPA will give me a small boost as well.Hopefullawstudent wrote:Any word on when people should start hearing back from the office if they were held over from ED?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
