By the way, from my experience with mailings last year, small envelope=2-3 days, larger envelope (especially if has a few things stuffed in it) 5-7 days or so.

Lol....looks like this thread really grew overnight! I'm in a timezone that's 12 hours ahead of you guys, so got quite a bit of catching up to do. Though it does seems like there have been no acceptances so far.

I think the best solution is to just call them on Monday and ask them about the decisions. That's what people did last year, and the admissions office was quite happy to release decisions over the phone. I really hope I'm not a deferral as I'm counting on an early end to my cycle, but we'll see I suppose.....

The next couple of weeks are gonna be quite eventful with all the decisions expected....good luck to all!!

Have any URMs been deferred?

Excellent idea. What time do they open on Monday?

Yes, 1 URM checked in as deferred.

Been lurking around the forums for the last few days, but I figured I could help answer this question since I'm a Cornell UG. A lot of the administrative offices are open at 8:30 AM. My guess is that the law school admissions office will be open at around 9, so calling at around 9:30 EST would probably be a safe bet.

Well, whoever calls is braver than me. I'd expect the person on the other end to just go, "Seriously?" and then call out across the office, "Hey, guess who just called in thinking they might actually have an admit..." followed by sit-com-level laughter...

i was deferred, 163, 2.92.
not too surprised...even for an urm applying to cornell very far from auto-admit. though i have to say that my cornell index is approximately the same as blacks attending cornell (at least the 5/6 on lsn): ~3.10-3.15. for the most part they applied and were admitted under RD.

I'm going to be out of town on Monday all day; I'm planning on calling, probably a little after 9:00 AM. I'll ask if they can let me know the decision, and then give them my name. Will keep everybody updated.

I'd be willing to wager a significant sum that, unless you're hiding some ax murdering past, your deferral will turn into an acceptance in Feb/Mar.

My suggestion is to write a LOCI 1) giving any further support that your GPA is not indicative of your potential, and 2) look into the interests of Cornell faculty and if you see something that you'd like to explore further (cough, death penalty, cough) and include that interest as well.

And for everyone deferred, don't use the "d" on LSN as indicative - it used to mean that the applicant decided to defer an application/acceptance, not that the school deferred you until regular admission - thus, a lot of us who were "deferred" will not show up by merely looking at "d"s.

For those wondering, it was a very optimistically-worded deferral letter. Quite reassuring.

I'm confused about Cornell's status checker.

Early Action Complete (JD only) Your JD Application is ready for review by the Admissions Committee. If your JD application was complete by the November 16 Early Action deadline, you should receive a written decision (Admit, Hold or Deny) by mid to late December. If your application was complete some time after the November 16 Early Action deadline then your application will be held over to the regular decision applicant pool.

Early Action Deferral (JD only) Your JD application is ready for review by the Admissions Committee. Your JD application was not complete by the Early Action Deadline, so it was held over to the regular decision application pool. If your application was complete by February 1, you should receive a written decision by the next 8 to 12 weeks.

I'm Early Action Complete 11/19 due to my 2nd LOR coming in a bit late. What am I to make of this part of the status?

If your application was complete some time after the November 16 Early Action deadline then your application will be held over to the regular decision applicant pool.

This seems to be the exact same criteria set forth in the definition for EA Deferral. But if I were held over why wouldn't my status just say EA Deferral instead of EA Complete? Can anyone help me out as to when I should be expecting a decision?

It says that for every EA applicant. I was in a similar situation, I had sent my app really close to midnight on November 2nd so I called in to check whether I would still be considered for EA- they told me I had submitted in time, despite having actually sent my app a couple of minutes after midnight. Just call them and they will tell you directly, their admissions people are extremely nice and understanding. Good luck!

Is there an updated list of deferrals/stats of those who received deferrals?

quick question everyone:

My Cornell status still says "Early Action Complete"- does it ever go to "under review", or just straight to "decision rendered"?????
