Such stupidity.... why apply if its not worth your time? Thats like being accepted to a place, visiting, knowing you wont go, and not withdrawing from the waitlist (which prevents another eager person from getting their prized acceptance.)

dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb
No, it's not the same at all. You don't know at the start of your cycle where you'll get in, and you can't blame people for hedging. Holding on to an acceptance after your cycle is complete is a totally different thing because you have all the information in front of you at that point. A lot can change in your circumstances or your goals in the 3-4 months after you apply, so there's nothing wrong in throwing apps at a few good schools that are outside your target markets. At the time I applied to Michigan, I didn't think I wanted to be in the Midwest, but I liked the way they marketed themselves as a community and if some other schools didn't pan out I didn't want to second-guess myself later. As it happened, my priorities didn't change and I didn't "need" Michigan, so I didn't aggressively pursue them. Michigan picked up on that and WL'd me today.

This whole process is too unpredictable for people to send apps to only their top choices, so put the soap box away and take a deep breath.

but the guy above that said "i forgot I applied".... I mean how is that not only careless but really just destructive.

Also- to the splitters, I was super borderline and got in early. Just show them you want Michigan BAD and you'll get in. It was my top choice and they could tell from the essays. Crush an LOCI and that will help alot

You act like it takes Adcomms an hour to find out if an app has a Why Mich? or a LOCI in the file. Beside, WTF cares if they forget, as long as the initial application served a legitimate purpose like the one I outlined in the previous post. Your degree of private obsession (as opposed to the extent of your expressed interest) is not and should not matter.

Got the lovely YP waitlist email today too. Sorry Mich, but I probably wouldn't have attended even if you'd thrown me a full ride. See ya!

This. If you're actually interested in Michigan, let them know. Part of me thinks a lot of this was an attempt to weed out those that weren't that interested anyway, or at least appeared that way. Not only does that reduce the number of applicants they have to worry about going forward, but it also helps give them a clearer picture of their pool so they don't over enroll like they did last year. I'm fairly confident that for those of you who are truly interested in Michigan, and are competitive applicants, if you express that interest at least some of you will get accepted off the WL...

WL'd. I actually liked Michigan the most out of MVP. :( Michigan with money would have been hard to turn down.

3.4, 177 - Waitlisted.

Feeling pretty terrible about it. Really like Michigan. Holds at NU, Colubmia & the interview request at GTown didn't really get to me much, but this stings.

171, 3.9. Very good undergrad softs, very good letters of recommendation, grad school, wrote why michigan essay AND recently included an additional supplemental further showing them "love."

Waitlisted. Dean Z calls admitting students like putting together a jigsaw but it looks alot more like building a class using a buzzsaw. At least that's how it feels from my little perch of ingorance.

Makes me think they must have REALLY disliked my personal statement. Was even hoping for a scholarship. Whatever. Huge disappointment.

I guess Michigan's new requirement this year is if your LSAT is over 170 and you're not a super splitter, lets yield protect the s*** out of you. Thought I had a shot at maybe some money if accepted, was one of my top choices. Guess a LOCI is in my near future.
I don't understand why this would be YP though. You're not really a CCN lock.

Similar numbers and the same result. I really like Michigan, and I have no idea if it's YP or not.

Not sure about this. I didn't write a Why Mich (or any other supp essays, though I did cover a bit of Why Mich in my PS), and I still got WL'ed with a 163/3.8. Pretty sure it was my work experience that got me that far.

I don't know if this is YP or if I'm a regular old waitlist, but right about now I'm wishing that Michigan had the extended ED deadline like Virginia...

Got WL as well. But, go back a few pages and I was already worried about the impending WL wave. Look at their graph from last year.

even without a complete cycle, you can look at the LSN graphs from this cycle and last cycle. Nothing looks out of the ordinary. They might have the opportunity to be more selective with more applicants or something...
