The acceptances so far seem to have been a slow trickle. There might have been very, very small waves, but nothing significant.

I applied 2 weeks earlier and just got my status checker. It's probably on the way pretty soon.

Is there a thread for swapping Darrow essays? I'm working on mine now... As someone said earlier, it's difficult to come up with yet another interesting story about myself...

Does anyone know the best way to get from NYC to Ann Arbor? Closest airport, etc.?

I think there's a second round of Darrow offers sometime around March, but I could be wrong.

I'll leave the NYC part of the trip to others who know that area better than I, but the major New York airports do have service to Metro Detroit (the closest major airport to Ann Arbor), so flights shouldn't be a problem. You could drive to Michigan from New York, but it can be a somewhat lengthy trip that would generally take you through Ontario. You might also take the train (Amtrak has a station in Ann Arbor), again, if time is not so much of an issue.

If you choose to fly, as far as getting to A2 from DTW, unless you have friends in the area who can pick you up, there are generally two relatively efficient options available to you:

1) Taxi. It might cost you around $50 or so one-way. You can do a search for Metro Detroit area taxi companies (there are several) if you want to make a reservation in advance, or you could just take one directly from the airport (there are usually a few available on the spot). A taxi company with whom I've had positive experiences in Ann Arbor is Amazing Blue Taxi. According to their site, they offer to take you from DTW to A2 for $50 one-way with a 24-hour reservation, and for a $10 fee, the driver will meet you in the baggage claim area and help with luggage, etc.

2) Bus Service. Michigan Flyer (LinkRemoved) is a service that can take you from the Metro Detroit airport to Ann Arbor for about $15 (if you purchase the ticket in advance).

There are some other options in the area, such as Greyhound bus stations, Amtrak trains, and SMART buses (LinkRemoved). There are some limitations inherent with these, though, as you would need to find some way to travel to and from the stops/stations (they don't service DTW directly), and SMART buses don't go to Washtenaw county (where A2 is located). You could also rent a car.

If you're willing to take the train to Newark, Continental has 6 flights a day to Detroit for around $210-$230.

Taxi is usually 45$ if you're going to the airport, but 55$ if you're coming from the airport and heading to Ann Arbor. The 10$ extra is the airport tax the taxis have to pay when they park there. When they drop you off, they don't have to park and they don't pay.

For family, friends and for myself, I always call Ken at Michigan cars (734-659-6062). He charges the same as blue taxi, he's always on time and he comes in a big/clean Lincoln-type limo. Much nicer ride than the crappy cabs. Plus he's a really nice and funny guy.

The shuttles are not too useful unless you fall at the peak of the season when kids are coming in to town for the new semester (e.g. end of August).

Are you referring to the MSA's airBus, Jim? If so, yes, those shuttles are among the cheapest options, but they're only run during peak student travel times around breaks (and in any case, you need an MCard to utilize this service, so I'm guessing it wouldn't apply for Kiersten). Michigan Flyer shuttles are entirely unrelated and operate 7 days a week.

DR 1/9 complete 12/2 171 3.2

Should I be excited since they haven't rejected anyone yet? I'm abroad so I won't be getting any mail. What's the deal with the admitted students site, I just tried logging in and it wouldn't let me.

Don't jump to any conclusions yet, but it doesn't look good for you with a DR and no access to the AS site.

Shit. Am I really the first reject of the cycle? That's a troubling thought.

My guess would be either a WL or a rejection. The only way this isn't right is if there is some weird glitch in the system or maybe they stopped people from being able to check the AS site very recently? Most people have been able to log into the AS site days before a DR date appears.

Wouldn't a WL show up in the status checker? It would have to be either an acceptance or a ding.

Is the AS site ever down for maintenance or whatever? This is the first time I've ever tried to log in. I'm assuming I use the same ID as I do for the status checker. Why would I be the first reject when my complete date isn't even that early? This is going to ruin my night.
