With your acceptance, I'm practically the last 169, 3.6-3.7 on LSN without a Michigan acceptance AND I was the first to apply (by 10+ days). I'm beginning to wonder why they hopped over me to you guys.

Congrats... that is awesome! It's nice to know that you are getting a 33% discount on school (when you include COL).summerschooled wrote:Thanks! Re: michigan 2010 applicants
I'm same except a little higher LSAT. I got the "haven't reached a decision" email last week. Have the more recent acceptance been from those who got the email as well? I sent in an updated transcript, an abbreviated LOCI, and fall grades (which upped my GPA by .03...will that make a difference at all?).grandslam wrote:I'm 169 3.6-3.7 too. Hoping for some news soon, as my LSAT is at/above 75th and GPA is basically at median.

I didn't even apply early...looks like I'm waiting on a rejection letter now.
Also, has anyone ever accidently reversed LSAT/GPA on LSP? I just had a mini-heart attack when I saw the entire page of red.

check out the end of the article... looks like Michigan is losing Douglas Laycock to UVA. I haven't heard back from either school yet, but I definitely said I wanted to take classes with him in my Why Michigan.

Me. In the Northwest--which could partly explain the delay.

In through ED and switched to Fall, but there were some pretty major extenuating circumstances and they mentioned that they rarely switch people. If you got a good reason, it's worth a try I suppose.
Michigan is amazing, by far (like 10,000 leagues under the sea far) the friendliest law school I've had contact with; their staff is just incredibly accessible and generous.

just got a voicemail from my dad.

THANKS DEAN Z! (god i love that woman).
my dad's voicemail mentioned that this makes me 'ineligible for need-based aid.' anyone who's seen the letter know what he's saying?

It says something to the effect that since $54k is such a substantial amount of aid, need-based aid wouldn't be considered for you, but of course, loans are still available.gahthelaw wrote:just got a voicemail from my dad.

Just got the mail; $45K. Does anyone know how financial aid breaks down for Summer Start? It didn't seem to state.
Congrats! The letter says we won't be getting any need-based aid, even if we qualify. It also says they are unlikely to "compete" with any other offers, though that could just be a "check" against being inundated by emails asking for more moolah.gahthelaw wrote:

Re: michigan 2010 applicants
that seems likely -- they give out so much money, i don't know if they can really play games like other schools can.Kretzy wrote:The letter says we won't be getting any need-based aid, even if we qualify. hmm...i mean, it IS a substantial amount of aid. i mean, god. $18k / year sounds like a ton. i mean, you could actually live off that.Helmholtz wrote:

I hope that's the case. UVA offered me more $$, but right now I think I like Michigan more... so I was hoping that I'd be able to negotiate...

I'm pretty sure it's $$/6 per semester, so for you $7.5k per. I can't imagine it'd be any different for summer start...Kretzy wrote:Just got the mail; $45K. Does anyone know how financial aid breaks down for Summer Start? It didn't seem to state.

Sorry if we've been over this before but.. all acceptances and denials from M come through snail mail, right? And do people generally find that their status is updated to "decision rendered" or whatever a day or two before they get the mail?
I'm extra curious because I'm away from home on business and there's no one to check the mail for at least a week.

There is one wrinkle to summer start, although it evens itself out (I think, don't remember if GradPLUS interest accumulates while in school).Kretzy wrote:Just got the mail; $45K. Does anyone know how financial aid breaks down for Summer Start? It didn't seem to state.
Anyway, since federal loan eligibility applies to a specific academic calendar (June - June), Summer Starters will only be able to borrow $20 in subsidized loans even though the three semester budget is $100k-ish (not $65k-ish for two semesters). So you'll end up taking a shit load of money through GradPLUS in year one, but you'll make this up in your final "year," which is really one semester.

Got the letter for the $45,000 Dean's Scholarship today, along with my train ticket to A2 for the Preview Weekend. Very, very excited.

It works out to:starstruck393 wrote:I'm pretty sure it's $$/6 per semester, so for you $7.5k per. I can't imagine it'd be any different for summer start...Kretzy wrote:Just got the mail; $45K. Does anyone know how financial aid breaks down for Summer Start? It didn't seem to state.
Summer = 5k
Fall = 5k
Winter = 5k
Fall = 7.5k
Winter = 7.5k
Fall (Last semester) = 15k
Since the money is given per year, the 15k is the max you get per year. Atleast thats how it worked for me last year.
