Dean's Scholly via snail mail today: $67,500. Admitted on 03/19, received the admit package on 03/23, and the scholly today. Looks like they may be bundling admits and scholarships this late in the cycle...

Me too : ) Same say as Penn ASW, so their timing couldn't have been better in planting the seeds of doubt in my head.

I wish I had both to consider, it's funny how Michigan accepts me and Penn WL me, I'd guessed it would be the other way around.

All,
I created a group on facebook for everyone who is sure that are going to Michigan. I think it might be helpful for passing on information on housing, meetups, etc to each other. If anyone would like to join, it's titled Michigan Law Class of 2013.

I just booked my trip there! Getting there around noon on Thurs 4/8 and leaving Sun night. Not sure what I'm going to do in Ann Arbor for 4 whole days. Any suggestions are welcome, including any classes to visit or things to do in Ann Arbor.

(Yes, I'm going to read back through this thread.)

Any fall starters get the email about switching to summer?

I'd definitely sit through a few classes. A couple things I discovered during ASW:

- Amer's has great sandwiches (on State St)
- Ashely's has a ridiculous amount of beer on tap/in bottle
- Rick's bar is full of undergrads.

I'd spend my time looking at apartments if you are planning on living off campus.

I didn't but at least one person told me about getting one during the ASW. She spoke to Admissions who said it wasn't guaranteed but shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks! Sooo I should avoid Rick's...? haha I'm actually in at the Lawyers' Club already. Does anyone know if I can get in there to look around?

Honestly,
I'd just ask around. Maybe ask the admissions office to hook you up with someone. Many of the students were letting random people tour their rooms. Ricks was okay...really loud and lots of undergrads. Ashley's was much better.

Edit: All the students seemed really great. Just let them know why you're there and I'm sure one will show you around.

You should email the admissions office, let them know of your upcoming visit, tell them what things you would like to do (see Lawyer's Club, visit law library, sit through some classes, etc.) With advance notice I'm sure they could help you out.

Anyone have any luck negotiation scholarship money with Mich? I know they say that they don't make award decisions based on other schools' awards, but idk how true that is.

I guess it doesn't hurt to try, but so far it seems that Michigan holds pretty strict to the policy of not matching or competing with other offers. If you haven't been awarded any aid you can negotiate for a scholarship but if you receive a scholarship the amount seems pretty set in stone.

It's been done before, and it never hurts to ask politely. That being said (going off of your LSN), your numbers are about right for the amount you got, and if you don't get any T14 $$ offers to use as leverage, I'd have a hard time seeing Michigan giving more money to compete with UCLA, Fordham and GW. You'd probably need offers from Chicago, UVA, Penn, maybe Duke to really have something to bargain with.

Is there any deadline by which you need to accept a dean's scholarship? Or is it just the regular seat deposit deadline?

Regular seat deposit. You don't have to formally accept it, if you enroll, it gets automatically applied.

Which is April 30th, right? I'm afraid I'm going to mix up some of these deadlines
