I've been both overworked and sick, so my essay is not really ready for any other eyes yet. I may end up asking Dean Z for a couple more days to finish it off, and turn it in on Monday.

to save me from having to scroll through 75+ pages:

How long were your optional essays? it says "should be approx one page." Does tha tmean 1 and 3/4 is ok? Anyone have insight? Ive called the admissions office but they have yet to get back to me (and I dont expect them to anytime soon).

Just went to decision on status checker . . . Michigan is a big reach for me, so I'm willing to bet a round of WL/rejects is going out

Mine was a page. I really think it's best to keep it from bleeding over onto the second page.

I applied 10 days ago and haven't received a single email from Mich. Is this normal?

I had a page and a line or something like that. I would cut it down a bit then maybe play with the margins or font (but never go below 11pt).

No . . . probably wait for the letter. More dignified rejection that way I think.

Double spaced, or single? 1 page double spaced is just not that much, and if you have something you feel is important to say I really don't think 1.5 pages doubled spaced is a problem. Minimizing margins and using 11 pt font is always a good idea in those cases, though...

People overestimate the subtlety and value of the bolded.

I went one page, double spaced. Just work on being succinct and cutting the stuff that isn't as important.

double spaced. Michigan comments in other places on the app that they prefer double spaced so I went with that. But I believe I had about .9" margins and 11 font. And a line on the 2nd page. I would say don't go over 1.5 pages though. Because then its closer to 2 than 1.

I talked to the adcomms.. they basically said 1.5 is fine. Ive already cut it down so much that it would lose meaning if I cut it down anymore. We'll see

congrats to the guy who got in!

One of mine is half a page the other is 1 page and a half. I thought that would be ok.

Your situation makes me scared. I don't think I can handle hearing nothing from Michigan for 12 weeks. I'll have a heart attack. Or become depressed.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
