Yeah softs make the most sense when you think of them as a tiebreaker like that. I dunno, I remember being pretty blown away by that thread, yeah the OP was below median but DAMN.
Well, have you ever gone to LSN's "applicants" page for a school and sorted the results by "complete date"?
I do this every few days to see where each school has caught up to in generally, for reviewing apps.
You see something like this for some schools:
Clearly they are reviewing files from 2 months ago, but someone that went complete a few days ago got their rejection already. You look at their numbers and it's some URM a decent chunk below both 25th medians who thought he was going to get in. It seems to me that people below a certain index don't even get their apps read. The guy in that thread would be better off applying to a school ranked 25 or lower and hoping for a full scholarship.
