This is a valuable life lesson: People are too quick to judge, passing decisions before they even get to know you. :(

Kidding aside, I didn't even get an interview, so I can't really say what's up. Sorry

Chillax.

Some people are at work and are putting off doing things (or have nothing substantial to do).

Also, welcome to the Internet.

I wasn't sure if he was joking or not.

The 10% increase in applications means nothing without a correlating figure concerning the quality of those applications.

If you assume the quality of this year's applications (including the 10%) is similar or better than the quality in previous years, then it means something.

I find it hard to believe that all of the 10% are auto-rejects, therefore it probably means something.

Yes, and if I assume that the quality of this year's applications (including the 10%) is similar or worse than the quality in previous years, then it means something.

So, I mistyped. The 10% increase in applications does mean something (that there are more applicants) - it just doesn't mean anything for us folks wondering about our chances of getting in, since it tells us nothing about the quality of competition relative to the previous years. Just the quantity.

After all, I would welcome a 50% increase in applications to any of the schools I'm applying for if they're, on average, filled with worse numbers than the previous cycle.

In the absence of evidence either way, it's reasonable to assume that the extra 10% have qualifications comparable to students in previous years. The anecdotal evidence is that there are more experienced people who may have better applications. But it seems just as possible that it's a matter of underqualified applicants looking for a place to go.

And until the cycle progresses we'll have trouble telling how much is the rise in applications per applicant.

This thread seriously exploded in the three hours I havne't checked it (which, by the way, is the longest I've been able to tear myself away from TLS in the last three months, I think)...and I'm feeling the 30 ROck.

ANYWAY.

I think if GULC really is just sitting around for three days before hitting send on our reject emails, there should be a mass demonstration.

statistically speaking, let's assume that the 10% new apps are the same strength as the pool last year for Gtown. Gtown accepts 21% of apps, so about 2/10 apps. Taking these two premises together, it means that we can likely expect that we have a 2% increase in highly qualified apps. A 4 % increase in qualified apps would already be a huge deviation statistically speaking, since it would mean that on average that 10% pool is twice as qualified as the normal pool, and in the absence of strong evidence we simply cannot assume such a thing. Obviously adcoms are gonna say "it's more competitive this year", they're not gonna say: We have a 10% increase but most of them would be rejected anyways. Just use your common sense and think about statistics- we're fine.

Ugh I just had a thought. What if they wait until after business hours to email like LSAC so they don't have to deal with hysterical people flooding the office with phone calls?

In other words: I agree with NayBoer for reasons listed above

They don't use an automated email system to send stuff like that. If they did I might go apeshit!

Haha I know but like, I'm seriously envisioning staff in the GULC admissions office poised with their fingers over the send key and getting ready to press it at 6 PM, and then running out of the office before the phones can start ringing. :-)

Okay, I guess my imagination is getting a little ridiculous. This process had made me crazy. The saddest thing is, I'm 99% positive I'm getting a ding, so I should PROBABLY just get on with my life already.

Yeah, same here. Despite me being a polyglot from an exotic country who has tons of strong extracurricular aspects, I think Gtown doesn't give a tiny rats arse about me unless I can raise their median- which I CANNOT... I can feel it in my bones, I'm out.
