Re: U Penn 2010
Got a fee waiver when I applied several days ago (although I had never had any correspondence with the school), so I had a feeling that something was coming in the mail. Sure enough, today I got a really nice invitation-to-apply letter (and fee waiver), as well as a good looking brochure. Great looking campus!

Complete as of 10/20 or so. Wrote a "Why Penn?"
At what point should applicants be worried about YP at Penn? I'm above the top quarter for LSAT and GPA, but not by a lot. Should I be worried?

With your numbers, you shouldn't be a victim of yield protection.MeasuredOptimism wrote:Complete as of 10/20 or so. Wrote a "Why Penn?"

It's kind of hard to tell what's going on with Penn, but it seems to be around 175 that you need to be very concerned about YP.MeasuredOptimism wrote:Complete as of 10/20 or so. Wrote a "Why Penn?"

Re: U Penn 2010
Hey guys, hopefully some of you will be my future classmates. I've just found out about a situation that will require me to stay in Philadelphia for the next several years, so Penn is the only school I'm going to apply to. Do you think there's a chance I would get money for 175/3.54 or should I just go ED to rid myself of any yield protect and/or low GPA induced anxiety? It's Penn or bust for me now...

Uh, I would probably just apply ED if you don't care about money, but I think you could land a decent scholarship with a 175 and a 3.5. Who knows. Do some research on LSN with Penn and applicants with similar numbers.FCD wrote:Hey guys, hopefully some of you will be my future classmates. It's so difficult to say with Penn though, LSN is just an enormous sea of yellow.VoidSix wrote:Uh, I would probably just apply ED if you don't care about money, but I think you could land a decent scholarship with a 175 and a 3.5. Re: U Penn 2010
I don't get the whole YP scare. If Penn is your only option, then you should mention that in a ps or an addendum. Worst case scenario is you get waitlisted and send a loci to get off the waitlist with money. Am I missing something about YP that makes it such a threat? Just show some interest after you are waitlisted and you should be good. I have a friend that got serious money after doing that.

Yeah. But I can't imagine getting YP'ed from an entire tier (say MVP) and writing LOCI to all of them in the middle of work / school. It's easier if you definitely know which school you want to attend.

Committee review! Heck yes.
Also, no decisions til Thanksgiving-time last year. Assume the same will occur this year.
