My other phone calls have all been in the afternoon or even evening (6:30-7ish). I'm not sure what the trend is for Penn but I don't think you can call the day over at noon.

people being out of school actually makes less sense for the before-noon thing. how many undergraduates actually have classes 9am - 5pm every day? or even just before noon on a friday?

It seems a little crazy to call before noon. They do kind of expect us to be in school.

(phone rings at 11:30)-
quetzal: Hello?
Dean: Can I speak to ******
quetzal: Speaking
Dean: Well I was going to offer you admission to Penn Law, but I see from your transcript that you should be in German class right now. We dont like slackers around here.....(click)
My call came around 10:30. It woke me up. God I love not having class until 11 MWF.

Was this today? So that means they are making calls?

Question for y'all...I am planning on visiting some East Coast schools over spring break. I have family living in Philly that I plan on staying with, and naturally I want to visit UPenn. I haven't been accepted to Penn yet, and I'm trying to finalize my plans.

Does anyone think it would be a good idea to call/email/send letter in order to let them know I'm interested in visiting, but haven't been accepted yet? I think it could possibly help speed up a decision and possibly increase a scholarship offer (I didn't write a Why Penn). How should I go about this? Should I send an email or do an LOCI via snail mail? Also, I don't want to be pushy and come off like "hey, i want a decision so could you please hurry it up?" At the same time, I would like them to speed it up.

Any thoughts are appreciated!

I would go ahead and visit. I scheduled an individual visit for next month and Cheryl in the admissions office was very accomodating.

Had you already been accepted before visiting?

Ya I have, but I don't think that its a big deal to visit before being admitted. I think that they view it as a positive sign you are really considering them and that they have a good shot at getting you to actually attend.

Any thoughts on whether visiting would help after being waitlisted?

I don't think they'd mind me visiting before being admitted. My only concern is making travel plans (I live on the other side of the country) only to be WL/Denied. I'm wondering how to gently ask them if I could get a decision soon because I'm interested in visiting their school and need to finalize travel plans. I think a phone call would be bad. I'm debating between email and snail mail.

I think it could help a great deal. If not just for the direct contact you could have with the admissions office, I think it would provide great material for a LOCI.

Well, looks like this whole conversation was for naught. Just got the call...I'm in! Last UCR was 2/1. Good luck to everyone else.

In at Penn today. Received 1/14, never got an UR, Complete 2/15.

Does anyone know if they mention scholarship offers when they make the call, or would that info potentially be in the letter? They didn't say anything to me, but I was hoping I was competitive for them.

She didnt say anything to me about scholarship forms, but I suspect they will come with the packet. I dont think I have the numbers to get anything though, but ill still try.

Was UCR 2/9, saw today that that was changed to UCR 2/18. Does that mean anything?

Next step is Under Committee Review (UCR). That might take a while, though, it's not uncommon to wait over a month in the queue (I was closer to two).

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
