ah, thanks. Dummy me - I guess then I can get cracking on Why Penn; I don't have to worry about writing an additional essay on the "same topic".
And all this time, I thought I had written the "Why Penn Essay"........... it's a good thing I am at least waitlisted

Just got waitlisted with a 177, 3.36. I guess I am a major splitter.
Any suggestions on what I should do to improve my chances of getting into Penn? I am starting to get nervous that there is something about my application of LOR's that is really turning off schools, but aside from a trivial misdemeanor I can't really fathom what the problem would be.

Honestly, it's your GPA that put you on the WL. Look at LSN graphs over the past few cycles. Lots of yellow dots down where you are.
Super-splitters tend to have unpredictable cycles, so hopefully you applied to a lot of schools and put effort into your essays. If you are WL'd/rejected everywhere, then maybe your PS wasn't good enough. If your LORs are tepid that would be a big problem, but hopefully you chose wisely with your LOR writers.

I had a big upward trend in my GPA, and all my LOR writers were professors whom I both worked closely with and in whose courses I excelled. I was pretty confident my LOR writers were genuinely enthusiastic about writing for me, but I can't say for certain.
I was really proud of my PS. I spent nearly 100 hours on it. I guess my grades are really going to kill me...

I think you have one of the highest LSAT's WL'ed. If you want to stay on it, I feel like you have to be one of the people taken off of it. Most other folks who are competitive elsewhere will probably withdraw, so if this is your top choice, make it known and I feel confident for you. Look like a lot of people who are accepted or WL'ed in past years end up withdrawing. I may withdraw as well because I don't know if I can wait until May/June/July to decide what happens in Sept. On top of that I still don't quite know why I was WL'ed, so without knowing I can't really gauge my probability. I don't want to take up a spot and have a change that I will be forced to turn it down. Better go to someone more who want it more this year.

Anyone know how long it takes to get out of UCR for Penn? The wait is killing me.
BTW, UCR since 2/18.

It probably varies. I was last UCR 2/18 as well and was accepted on Thursday.

I was UCR 2/17 and received the phone call last Thursday, so I'd imagine you'd be hearing soon. Good luck!

Can someone answer this question for me. If one has a >25% lsat score, maybe even auto-reject number, what could explain being in review for 8 weeks, now, particularly this late in the cycle?

Waitlisted last week. About 50th percentile on GPA and above 75th LSAT.

I did not realize the 5 year plan would be the same as writing a why penn essay and I didn't write it. I just went UCR 3/8 to 3/15, does that mean it would be too late to send them something and that they will probably reject me?
My numbers are definitely a reach for them.

178/3.95, great softs - UCR since 12/18 (updated to UCR 1/7) and still no decision. I'm sure I'm going to get a WL decision any time soon, especially since out of the optional essays I wrote only the diversity one and not the 5-year plan one. Really stupid of me - I thought it was supposed to be about my 5-year plan (which is rather vague) and not about why I want to go to Penn so I didn't write it
I have lots of other great offers, but my significant other is still waiting to hear back from Penn about a PhD program so it might end up being the one place I REALLY want to go (and unfortunately I may not know that for while either). I recently sent an email more or less saying "it's been more than the 12 weeks you say and I'm still interested and any update on when I can expect a decision?" but no response so far.
Any suggestions???

You could send a more detailed letter explaining why you are interested in going to UPenn.

Yeah, did you notice the second half of my post about my significant other waiting to hear back about a PhD program AT UPENN? For a few of us out there the whole school decision thing is about more than just automatically going to the very highest ranked school we can get into. And no, it's not a super fun situation actually.
And jsbr1114, thanks! It's just trying to figure out what to say...
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
