WM GPA 3.35-3.79/ LSAT 160-166

W&L GPA 3.27-3.70/ LSAT 160-166

Lots more to compare but nothing too far apart.

I'd be interested to hear what others think who are looking at the two schools.

I'm on both the waitlists and thinking of dropping to just one. I'm leaning W&L and I might have a better chance with my strong GPA/weak LSAT there...

Waitlisted: How is this even possible with my abysmal 3.3x/160? Maybe I will still get lucky and get in!

Got my official W&M rejection today. After being strung along for such a long time, I'm not really upset. Very "meh."

Waitlisted. Sending a loci probably next week. Does W&M put people on a waitlist that have 0 chance or do they actually admit some WL'ers?

W&M is notorious for WL being a soft reject.

W&L manages those numbers without a low in state tuition rate. I'm on the W&M hateraide train, don't get in my way

What's the point of a soft reject? Why would a law school be bashful about rejecting applicants? I can see soft rejections being useful if they're trying to boost their acceptance rate but why would any school want to look less selective than they actually are?

Are you sure W&M's WL isn't notorious simply because its hard to get off of it?

Newbie waitlister here: 163/3.81. I dunno... I'm collecting waitlists now, officially.
They're a top-3 choice, so def. sending an LOCI next week.

Thus the wait list is way to large and they over use it. I honestly believe W&M wait list more people than they outright reject. There is no need to have 1,000 people on a wait list unless you are overly paranoid.

So, since I'm new here, I thought I'd gather some info: starting with, how many folks does W&M waitlist per year? I think 1,000 sounds a bit much, but hey, I'm the one seeking answers.
When do they usually start making offers off of the waitlist? Does anyone know any historical facts on that one?
Thanks

Ran out of spots for everyone I guess. That's pretty surprising given the LSN graph, but it was all waitlists yesterday (apparently).

I didn't think about that. soft-reject because dean wixson wakes up in a cold sweat imaging that all his admits go to harvard.

that said, really? 1000 wait listers?

It'd be nice to have some info into the numbers and what the office is up to. If they create a huge waitlist, it strikes against being upfront and honest.

They know how many people get off and should tell people honestly.

Their WL web section leaves little doubt into actual chances. Oddly enough I feel better about my WL chances at UVA.

But still, gotta have some hope for WM. If we are the WL crowd, then some of us have a fighting chance.

Is this the first major WL group? hopefully the last...

Add me to the WL train.

Really, W&M? It took you three months to decide that?

What do you mean by this first statement, specifically?

And, I think there's def. been some WL's handed out. LSN shows some WLs that I recognize seeing as early as December/Jan...

Enough people complete this remove from waitlist form maybe I'll have a shot at getting in.

I think they're referring Dean Shealy's interview on TLS or the updated W&M school profile both of which have been condensed into a single document.

As to the waitlist, I cannot see why they would waitlist so many people if they felt that they weren't qualified in some way to attend. They have clearly rejected some applicants and can't see why they wouldn't go down that route for many others if they felt they were unqualified. The idea of a soft rejection seems too considerate and, quite honestly, too much work on their part for an admissions office.
