just curious.
i thought waitlists aren't looked at until they're done with all the other applications first. So everyone will need to get a decision first (accept, reject, waitlist) then they start looking at waitlists, which is usually after the deposit deadline (May 1st).
+1. They don't really know how many spaces they'll have until after deposits are in.
The deadline is May 1st? Thought it was April 15...
May 1st, according to their website: http://lawweb.usc.edu/how/

anyone DR'd last week get their mail yet today? The decisions were supposed to go out on Friday so maybe some local kids will get theirs today?
Looks like the first 3/31-er posted on LSN...http://usc.lawschoolnumbers.com/applica ... order=desc :(

guess that's the 4/5 decision? unless they're too far to get their mail. but I'm okay with a rejection. one less thing to add on so late in the cycle, you know? obviously I'd prefer to be let in...

I'd say that was 3/31. I find it extremely unlikely to get a DF and snail mail in the same day.

edit: but there's always the possibility of the mixed batch, if admissions was telling the truth.

a guy posted that it is always sent out in the "same batches". he did not copy paste the email but if he was telling the truth there are no mixed batches that go on the same day.

oh ok. yeah, I misread XiZenta's post. Brain fart. the decisions were grouped, based on what admissions told him when he phoned.

Yes, 3/31 batch is rejection.

I just don't get it. With a 3.4 and a 169 I was at least a candidate for the wait list. and I was waitlisted at UCLA and a few far better schools than USC, what is up with this unbelievable rejection?

Oh well, I'm not holding my hopes up high for UCLA, so unless Cornell gives me good news, I am off to either GW Law or Fordham Law. God I wish making the decision between the two was easy.

Anyone know how long USC tends to take between batches?

It shouldn't be that hard to decide...They're peer schools, so really you're deciding between DC and NYC, which are very different cities.

its random. i've seen it come out 2 days in a row where 1 were all acceptances, and the other were all rejections.

lol yeah I was waitlisted at uva and ucla... I'm glad to have at least one easy decision - as in, it's made for me.

Did you ever explain how you figured out that this was a rejection batch from the email you were given?

if you're this curious, I'd do the same as JO and call asking for your decision because deposits are due.

it was explained to him that it was in a batch. Guys with my #'s had no shot at acceptance. I was in that patch. the rest is obvious

lol. thank you for re-stating the obvious.

If it makes you feel better, I would have been perfectly satisfied being in the 3/31 batch.

that's how I feel about it. a result is a result and at this point in the cycle all I want is to know which schools I have to pick between.

I emailed today asking if I was being considered merit money. I received $20k/yr from Duke, so I thought USC would offer something. They replied:
Congratulations on your admission to usc law school!

The Admissions and Financial Aid Committee of the Law School has reviewed your application for scholarship assistance. Scholarship awards are based on the availability of funds and are made by the Committee after reviewing the financial need, academic performance and potential of the applicant. Unfortunately, our available scholarship funds are not sufficient to make an award to all students who are admitted. Your outstanding record of academic, professional and personal achievement is to be commended, and we hope to be able to offer you a scholarship. Unfortunately, we have already offered a significant amount of scholarship assistance to other admitted applicants, and we do not have sufficient information at this time regarding whether these previously-made scholarship offers will be accepted. As with offers for admission, some scholarship awards are made to students who later choose to enroll elsewhere. When that occurs, the scholarship funds previously allocated to those students may become available for awards to other students. We will review our scholarship budget shortly after April 15, and determine if additional scholarship funds are available. If we are able to offer a scholarship award to you, then we will notify you before May 1st. Although we very much hope that you will enroll in August -- and we will sincerely attempt to find scholarship support for you -- we are unable to confirm a scholarship award for you at this time.

Man, that's pretty brutal...really makes you appreciate the value of applying early. I guess I don't need to be waiting with bated breath for my scholarship offer...

just be all "thanks for the information. I would love to attend USC but really need the assistance of a scholarship to fund my education. while you remain my top choice I will be putting down seat deposits at both USC and another, more affordable option just in case the scholarship does not come through"
