Even Yale does what it can to stop Judgment Day. No fate but what we make.
The Leviathan is a sort of 17c Terminator, n'est pas?
I've been curious about TH's choice of username too.
Well my philosophical idol is David Hume, but my personality's closer to Hobbes, and I admire his ability to describe life in four words. Hobbes would've had no trouble with the 250, he probably could've done something decent in 10 words.

I'm a Hume fan too, but Hobbes may be more relevant to the current era. Your avatar is easily one of the 10 best on TLS.

Did you do Directed Studies? My sister did the program and encountered Hume there, after which I encountered him secondhand by reading her textbooks.
PM'ed.

good luck to all the rest, and here are my details:

Applied: 10/08/09
Complete: 10/17/09

LSAT: 172
GPA: 3.94

Strong recs, rare softs and a weak, weak, weak 250.
why would you submit a weak x 3 250 if you are applying to yale? Don't you want to make your application as good as possible? Seems like a waste of time/money to apply knowing your materials are below your own estimation of par.
because this way you get to avoid having to make the H v Y v S decision without saying that you didn't try :)

I've got decent numbers for Yale (176/3.87) but I'm straight out of undergrad with no leadership positions or interesting EC's/Clubs at my school

It's literally Habitat for Humanity MEMBERSHIP, and a few major-related clubs at undergrad
Part time summer work, not prestigious
Decent LoRs, but nothing special for Yale
A personal story for my PS, a story about overcoming adversity (I'm not URM though)

Have a few "neat" ideas for a 250, but just because it sounds good in my head doesn't mean it would be compelling to them

I know Yale is a "black box" but so many people have accomplished so much more than me during UG, I just sat on my ass playing games and trying to keep my grades afloat. With my GPA below their median, should I even consider spending the $$$ to apply?

Eh its easiest to make the HYS decision when you only apply to one of them :D

Your chances are not negligible but not great, unless you can grab their attention with a 250. The UG institution that you are attending can have an impact.

On the other hand, who does have a great chance at getting into Yale?

Haha, thanks. In all seriousness, though, they're so selective that nobody should feel like they're virtually assured admission, and numbers-based predictions are less useful than they are for just about any other school (except maybe Boalt).

Hmm, I feel that Stanford is just a little more reliable than YLS, but I could be wrong.

Well, SLS accepts almost twice as many applicants as YLS, so that makes SLS seem a tad bit more reliable.

i don't know, i agree with crackberry. SLS is pretty darn unreliable:

http://stanford.lawschoolnumbers.com/stats/0809/

there is no nice corner of green in the upper left, like Harvard and pretty much every other law school except for Yale. There are no numbers I would feel comfortable with at Stanford, and I am 75/75 there.

You can also see this by their inferior LSAT range to Columbia. If they were number-whoring like the rest of the schools they would have a much better LSAT range.

I agree that SLS is pretty darn unpredictable. They are certainly less predictable than HLS and CLS. But as unpredictable/unreliable as YLS? I don't think so.

It's not the end of the world to take a job for 2-3 years and apply then. Seriously. I've been out for 5 and -although I wish I applied a lot earlier- I can't say I regret getting a taste of the "real world" *shudders*
