Any current students able to weigh in... I read on the site that students are required to have a floppy disk drive to take exams. Did you buy an external floppy disk drive? That seems so bizarre to me. Or do certain laptops come with them?

Yes, at this point an external floppy drive is required to backup our exams from the Exam4 software. The Exams are actually submitted via wireless internet but as an added precaution the school is required by the ABA to store backups for a set amount of time (4 years I think). For whatever reason the school decided that floppy disks were the best way to do this. All that this requires is buying an external floppy drive (+- $20) but I would wait until you are actually instructed that this is still required. Most people only end up buying them a couple of weeks before exams. I would wait and see.

Thanks! Will you be at FSU in the fall?

My congratulations as well. I'm hoping for the phone call this week. Status checker still reads App Complete.

3/3 Applied
3/15 App Complete

I'm a 161, 3.0 non traditional(West Point Grad with 5 years active army) and a blank check from the army to whatever school will take me. So hopefully FSU will say yes, otherwise its 3 years at stetson living 10 minutes away from the in-laws.

I'm pulling for you, nbart. No one should have to live that close to the in-laws (unless you really like them).

Congrats, mel! I believe FSU is your first choice?

A bunch of students live right across the street from the law school (on Jefferson) at Jefferson Arms, College Towers, etc. The company that owns them (Phoenix South - you can look them up online) owns a bunch of buildings on the street. They are very convenient (people can just walk to class).
But, if you would prefer more comfortable accomodations at about the same price (but about 6 miles away - you have to drive/park) then a bunch of law students live at Polos on Park. I also know some that live in Southwood (Delaney Park), Arbor View (really nice) and Victoria Grand (pricey but nice).
Hope this helped a little! At least it will give you a starting point.
Let me know if I can further help in any way.
Best -

To gottaloveJAG: I didn't go back through your earlier posts so sorry if you've already answered this but I'm really interested in what apartment complexes/living spaces are favored among FSU law students. I wish I could narrow my search but I don't even know where to look right now.

Thanks for the info! One more quick question: what is traffic like in Tallahassee? In other words, if I google directions a place and it says it is 5 minutes from the law school, is that like at 15-20 minute drive in reality? I'm guessing 6 miles (i.e. Polos on Park) isn't too far away, but I don't want to underestimate the commute.

I live 6 miles away and it takes me 12 minutes to get to school in the morning (and the speed limit on the roads I take is around 30-40 mph).

I called today to find out about holds and they said they could not give me a time frame in which we could have a decision. So I said, this means I could possibly not know until July, and she got awkward and was like yeah we can't give you a time frame.

They extended their application deadline to April 15th (sweet), so we still haven't met the app deadline yet! Looks like more waiting yay

Is that for people who were admitted later? My paper only shows one deposit due on 4/1.

Anyone heard about $$? I've been in for damn near two months and got my aid paperwork in on time, but I haven't seen anything except the standard Stafford loan info. Almost ready to get annoyed. No way I'm gonna consider FSU out of state w/o $$ or communication when I'm in at IUB w/ in state.

2.89/167, non-traditional and the 2.89 is only due to stupidity over 5 years ago. Current institution is a 3.79. Really thought I'd see $$. Finally got an response to my emails yesterday, apparently will know in next "day or so".

Still on HOLD. Anyone know the reason why FSU extended their application deadline? Is there any indication that they are receiving significantly more applications because of it?

On hold too. They must have extended the deadline as a last ditch effort to attract quality applicants who got shut out of higher ranked schools earlier in the cycle (Encyclopedia Brown would be a good example). Hopefully not too many of these people took advantage of this opportunity. My impression is that FSU doesn't really want to admit us folks on hold at this point, but may have to take some if they can't get better applicants to fill some spots.

I think that FSU will make one last round of acceptances around late April. If you aren't in that batch, then I would guess a WL/rejection is in your future.

I'm hopeful that all us folks still on hold end up getting in and FSU doesn't get a lot of super-late applying folks with good numbers to take our spots.
