congrats musicnut! were you on hold? by when do you have to provide a decision?MusicNutMeggie wrote:I got in yesterday! They sent an email at about 2:30...and then financial aid sent one about an hour later that said that all grant and scholarship money had been exhausted. Oh, well. Now it's off to Ithaca to check out Cornell-- this is going to be a tough decision. Good luck to all of you!

I also just went Hold (End of February) to Wait List without any email indication. Checked my status and the WL letter was sitting there. Considering my numbers will probably put me at the back of the "unranked" WL, might just withdraw.

Why withdraw? Do you have other good options? Withdrawing because you think you are long shot is a waste of a small chance.Baloo wrote:I also just went Hold (End of February) to Wait List without any email indication. Re: Northwestern 2010
Mostly because I'm extremely fed up with the process and how these schools seem to jerk people around. I'm in at UCLA and would be happy to go there but NW had some programs and profs I was interested in which I mentioned in my hold LOCI and some other parts of my app. And I did an on-campus interview. I feel like they've got everything they're going to get from me and it just seems ridiculous to keep drawing this out. I know all this logic fails on about every count. I was held since the end of Feb and told over the phone and via email that I'd know in the first week of April. I understand this is an awkward year but I don't think that justifies how many law schools are delaying decisions and maintaining absurdly large wait lists. There is even something in the LSAC application regulations that says law schools must only keep wait lists of reasonable size. Looking at a school like UVA on LSN seems to disprove that, regardless of how relative "reasonable size" is. I've been through this same thing now with two other T20 schools, one of which told me I'd have to withdraw all other applications if admitted.

Congrats to the new admits! Have we come up with any rationale for stealth waitlisting people? Is it supposed to be a secret? Why not email us to say "Hey! Update! We like you, we just don't like like you."

Re: Northwestern 2010
And I have trouble with NW saying that "in recent years" they've admitted %20-%25 of the WL. This isn't a recent year, this is a weird, weird year and I'd appreciate what they honestly think is going to happen with the WL, even if it's only their best guess. You've WLed me at this point so you can stop the suspense. They alos said in the letter that they've admitted people as late as the first day of classes. I know they're not the only school to do so, but come one, that's ridiculous. Someone is enter law school needing to find a place to live, get the lay of the land, get settled, and you admit them on the first day of class. Why not just take this risk of having one more person in your entering class than you expected, admit the person two weeks before classes start. Rant over.

If they never send an e-mail notice, dozens or more potential WLers won't return their WL forms by the due date, thus decreasing the size of the WL and increasing the odds of informed TLSers' getting accepted. I'm all for it.jks289 wrote:Congrats to the new admits! Have we come up with any rationale for stealth waitlisting people? Is it supposed to be a secret? Why not email us to say "Hey! Update! I read on an LSN profile that UVA couldn't up their scholly because of "more seat deposits than we expected." Wonder how many other schools are going to have the same problem this year.....

Re: Northwestern 2010
I'm not against it (though I might be if I had missed the letter) I am just wondering why that would benefit NW. Maybe the idea is people who check the status compulsively are more invested in attending?Encyclopedia Brown wrote:If they never send an e-mail notice, dozens or more potential WLers won't return their WL forms by the due date, thus decreasing the size of the WL and increasing the odds of informed TLSers' getting accepted. Maybe, but I was checking it compulsively and didn't actually check the letter, whose file name didn't even change, until I saw here that people were getting different letters.
Either way, I definitely think it benefits us.

Still hoping. Does anybody know if Northwestern put this many hold applicants on the WL last year?
