WL. Huge letdown. Wish I'd applied earlier.

Waitlisted today. Not really upset about it since I was going to withdraw anyway.

Friend got WLd as a Berkeley student with a 3.92/172. Crazy stuff...

From Berkeley's Twitter: We've completed the process and emailed all the decisions for first-year JD applicants! ...Up next, the transfer process begins April 1
Color me impressed.

Wow, I wish every school kept to that kind of schedule.dudester wrote:From Berkeley's Twitter: We've completed the process and emailed all the decisions for first-year JD applicants! ...Up next, the transfer process begins April 1

btw - can someone explain why some people on LSN put a "deferred" next to some schools and not others on their profile? Are they planning to defer for a year at those schools but not the others?

Deferred means they either applied ED and were pushed back to the RD pool, or they received a hold which will be reviewed later.existenz wrote:Wow, I wish every school kept to that kind of schedule.dudester wrote:From Berkeley's Twitter: We've completed the process and emailed all the decisions for first-year JD applicants! ...Up next, the transfer process begins April 1

Anyone know what kind of rank you'd need at MVPDN to transfer to Berk? I'm not giving up on this dream.

In the transfer forum, I've heard top 1/3 would be competitive to lateral into Berkeley. Dean Tom has said something along the lines of "we look for top 5-8% but there's a sliding scale for better schools." Personally, I'd aim for top 5-10% and transfer to Stanford.los blancos wrote:Anyone know what kind of rank you'd need at MVPDN to transfer to Berk? I'm not giving up on this dream.

Good to hear. It looks like I'm heading to Duke, which I'm not upset about at all. I'm going to try my very best and take a shot at HYSB, but I'll be completely happy graduating from Duke.im_blue wrote:In the transfer forum, I've heard top 1/3 would be competitive to lateral into Berkeley. I applied rather late too.
Edit: Not gonna use that as an excuse though.

I wouldn't withdraw but Boalt looks like your best option, assuming you want California. Maybe Penn for the East Coast.fomenting wrote:on the WL at columbia. should i withdraw from there and just come to boalt??

Are you kidding me?! Boalt's Twitter says they've e-mailed the decisions for all incoming 1Ls! I applied the FIRST DAY they accepted applications. My status checker STILL says UR 10/19!
I mean, I've heard people complain, "I wonder if they forgot about me?" But seriously... This is ridiculous!

Call them. They have to tell you something at this point.thorntll wrote:Are you kidding me?! Boalt's Twitter says they've e-mailed the decisions for all incoming 1Ls! I applied the FIRST DAY they accepted applications. My status checker STILL says UR 10/19!

I did call. They have a record message instructing you to send them an e-mail, or leave a message. I sent them an e-mail and they still haven't gotten back to me.BenJ wrote:Call them. I don't even want to go to Berkeley, but this is still ridiculous. I didn't pay them $75 to ignore my application.

Has anyone received any scholarship or financial aid offers? The admitted student page says something about financial aid packages going out no earlier then the first week of April. I was wondering if they offered any money to anyone in advance?

Everyone's favorite Berkeley faculty member strikes again. my favorite bits were his derisive reference to "the People's Republic of Berkeley" and describing his position at Boalt as "being West Berlin during the Cold War, a shining beacon of capitalism and democracy surrounded by a sea of Marxism."
Oh that and apparently anyone who disagrees with him is a "troglodyte" stuck in the 60s...

Re: Berkeley 2010
Sorry if this is the wrong thread for this, but I logged into Bearfacts (really just on a whim without receiving any e-mails telling me I had an offer waiting) and it says I have a law grant of $16,000 for the '10-'11 year. Anybody know if this award is guaranteed to be renewed in the '11-'12 and '12-'13 years (in other words, is it really an offer of $48,000, but over three years)? Moreover, you guys know if this is a need or merit-based award, or a combo of the two (kind of like how Chicago combines them, or is it like UCLA where the two are completely separate); should I expect to receive an additional award from Berkeley? Thanks .

I received major money from the matching scholarship program. But I haven't received a "official" award letter.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
