Re: Berkeley 2010
Most of the comments on this page are very encouraging! I agree with those who felt that a strong 2-page PS is better than a rambling 4-page PS; my writing tends towards the economical, so I didn't feel the need for a 4-page essay. My reason for feeling discouraged was exactly the interview that crackberry quotes, however, so hopefully Dean Tom is more flexible than that excerpt makes him sound.
I don't know why I should care about Berkeley at this point, but I do. Weird, isn't it?

Arrggh! I missed a call from (510) about an hour ago. Tried calling back, and got an answering machine in the Berkeley Law admissions office, but no voicemail or email. Is it good news? I want closure!

It's probably just your ego. That's not a criticism. If I were you I'd care about getting into every single school, not just the top couple.managamy wrote:Most of the comments on this page are very encouraging! Yeah, you're in. Seems like a lot of the early UCB admits are high LSATs. Interesting.marbletop wrote:Arrggh! I missed a call from (510) about an hour ago. I did, and that's when I got their answering machine. My boyfriend says they probably just called to ask for some pot.managamy wrote:Almost positive that it's good news! That trend breaks with a long-standing tradition, from everything that I've heard here and elsewhere.crackberry wrote:Yeah, you're in. Seems like a lot of the early UCB admits are high LSATs. That's strange. I was admitted last week and my status checker still says under review with the original date it went under review.

Re: Berkeley 2010
I wouldn't say that contradicts what Dean Tom said. I didn't say you shouldn't have four pages if you have that much to say that's worthwhile - I'm just saying don't keep it at four pages just because you want four pages if you're just dragging on.crackberry wrote:This is exactly the opposite of what Dean Tom says in the Berkeley interview on this site.amidea wrote:For what it's worth, my PS was originally about 4 pages and my pre law advisor (who seems like a perfectly knowledgeable lady but who knows) said I should try to cut it down because even though Berkeley allows for 4 pages, it doesn't mean they want you to write more just for the sake of it.
EDIT: http://www.top-law-schools.com/tom-interview.html
Dean Tom: “The personal statement is the first thing I look at when I open a folder, even before viewing the GPA or LSAT score. I think applicants should be aware that our personal statement option is twice as long as most other law schools, it’s 4 pages, and students should take advantage of that. There’s no particular assignment for our personal statement; it’s very open-ended. The personal statements is the applicant’s opportunity to distinguish himself from hundreds of other applicants who have the same numbers, and the same major, and come from a similar school. The personal statement is an applicant’s opportunity to describe the distance they’ve come in their lives.

Looks like today may have been the beginning of the first true wave of acceptances... anyone agree?

Eh +0.5 at most. There are still only 7 acceptances on LSN. That's not a wave. That's a trickle.Legacy316 wrote:Looks like today may have been the beginning of the first true wave of acceptances... anyone agree?

I'll give you a +1 on that remark if we see a steady flow over the next few days. One day does not a wave make.Legacy316 wrote:Looks like today may have been the beginning of the first true wave of acceptances... anyone agree?

Re: Berkeley 2010
I was thinking of today as the beginning of the wave. I think today has had the most movement we've seen so far, and given the fact that we are overdue for the first wave, I think I might be correct. And yes, I am aware of the dangers of predictions ITT.

You've scored a touchdown, but there's a long way to go in the game.bighead715 wrote:pissantvache wrote:In at Berkeley! just got the call from Dean Tom--ASW is on April 9th!
