I received the admissions packet at about 11 a.m. this morning. It was a big priority mail package. It won't fit in a traditional mailbox. It does include a scholarship offer. Mine was 10K, conditional of course, on me staying in the top 1/3 of the class. So I'm excited, but I know that condition is daunting. Of course, it is 10K for an in-state tuition of around 14K, so I can expect some strings attached. The law profession is high stakes so why wouldn't law school be the same way?

Anyway, you can start expecting the packets today or next week.

Congrats on the scholarship! Do you live in Alabama, and if you don't mind, what are your numbers?

Yeah I live in Alabama and attend UA. I bet that is how I got my packet so quickly as the letter was dated for yesterday.

Thanks for the reply and hopefully I will get it on Monday (also in state). Surprised about the scholarships already being out, hoping for a big number.

Half tuition scholarship for out of state along with the top 1/3 ranking stipulation. Maybe my opinion will change if my cycle goes disastrous, but for now it's not looking like UA for me.

You have a 170+ LSAT and a 3.9+ GPA! Why are you applying to UA! Do you live next door or something?

Because I want to go to somewhere that will give me a full ride. ITE, it doesn't make sense to me to pay full price for a shot at a T14 to possibly get a great job. I would rather have less debt, and graduate from a T30.

Plus, I am a southern boy who loves the south. :D

Congratulations to all! I met a professor and an admissions rep at the ATL forum. They were very friendly and informative. They "sold" Bama to me a lot better than other reps "sold" their respective schools. What do you guys think my chances are at Bama? 3.6/162, resident, 11 years WE (military/DoD contractor)...

If you don't get a full ride from a T14 then who would.

I am not saying that I am definitely going to UA, but it's nice to know that I am in the T30 either way. I would have no problem going to UA, but I am leaving my options open for now.

Thanks for the vote of confidence! :D

Just got the phone call from Page. For those who've received $$, how long did it take to receive the admission packet w/ scholarship info after your phone call?

EDIT: Misspelled Page's name.

I thought she was when I spoke to her.

That is what has put Alabama on the top of my list right now. Everyone there is very helpful, and nice. Wouldn't be a bad place to spend 3+ years, IMO. :D

Got a phone call from Paige too - entirely different message but she was still extremely helpful and sweet. I'm complete but my LSAT puts me on the bubble; she said I was an interesting applicant and she wanted to encourage me to retake. So here's a quick question for this board: you think it is better to withdraw my current score (UA allows this) and flag my app for review until AFTER the Feb LSAT, risking being one of the last candidates under review... or should I just take my chances on (I'm assuming) the waitlist and submit the second score when I get it?! Strategy suggestions...

Oh, an FYI for interested UA applicants w/o decisions: Paige said they are shooting for 164 as the median LSAT this cycle.

I would probably just take my chances and wait for your second score to get in.

Mind giving us an idea where you are in relation to the desired median?

LSAT: 157 (took it practically cold; studying and retaking = no brainer, the issue being work sked and time)

I'm not sure how many ~157s they are even considering... but I have 3+ years interesting WE, a strong GPA/undergrad record and in-state status going for me. Registered for Feb. LSAT now. Hope I can squeeze in this cycle!

Her contacting you definitely sounds optimistic. Good luck!
