Applied to the FT program last night. Numbers are a smidgen below the medians so we'll see if my softs/other crap help out. I've heard things including SMU is "bush league" but I also have a friend who got accepted with a 155 to the FT program (white female). Let's hope for the best!

Re: SMU 2010!
I applied to SMU, I like the school, and I currently live in Dallas, I have lived here for about 7 years now, and my wife is a nurse at one of the local hospitals. Since she is a nurse we are okay going elsewhere or staying here because it is faily easy to find a job as a nurse. Anyway, best of luck to y'all!

Wouldn't being accepted to the full time program with a 155 indicate that the school was more "bush league"? My definition of "bush league" is below standard, not above.Bustang wrote:Applied to the FT program last night. Numbers are a smidgen below the medians so we'll see if my softs/other crap help out. I guess our definitions differ I've always known "bush league" to mean tough/stubborn, but I could be incorrect. In any case: I've seen/heard mixed things about SMU admission cycles.isaiah6v8 wrote:Wouldn't being accepted to the full time program with a 155 indicate that the school was more "bush league"? I'll be applying to the PT program as well. I've gone to school in the evening before, so it shouldn't be too hard to add that part to my PS (kind of annoying that SMU does that but I can kind of see why).

Interesting, i had never heard it that way, what region of the country are you from? I wonder if that has something to do with it. I think of the scene in Anchorman, when Will Ferrell tells his make up lady that her work is "bush league".Bustang wrote:I guess our definitions differ I've always known "bush league" to mean tough/stubborn, but I could be incorrect. Applied last week, got status checker e-mail today. Mine just says "received," although I don't seem to be missing anything.

It took them a week or so to give me the status checker e-mail and then another 2-3 days before I went "complete".csteele12 wrote:Applied last week, got status checker e-mail today. Mine just says "received," although I don't seem to be missing anything.

SMU wants a "why law" personal statement, how many people wrote a completely new personal statement, tweaked their personal statement, or did not change their personal statement at all?

I think most personal statements usually are "why law?" essays to some extent. Most people talk about an experience or topic of interest and somehow try and tie it into why they want to go to law school or be a lawyer. I personally didn't change a thing.

SMU wants both a personal statement AND a "Why law" or "Why SMU" essay.

Re: SMU 2010!
Oh yeah, after looking I see that. I totally did the "Why SMU" since I feel like my PS answered "Why law".kalvano wrote:SMU wants both a personal statement AND a "Why law" or "Why SMU" essay.

Re: SMU 2010!
Yea I did the Why SMU but yea then there is a personal statement plus an "optional" essay for scholarship money which I took to be kind of like a diversity statement. Anyway, I guess i just asked about the personal statement because it looked like SMU wanted more of a direct, I want to study law because of A,B,C, and not like a statement relating a personal story.

This is pretty much the length of my essays as well.

SMU is looking like a great school. I am not from Texas but have been to Dallas before and was impressed.
Does anyone know if they have a preference for TX residents? I know they are private, but you never know.
Best of luck to everyone, FT and PT.

well since SMU is private, they're not held to any cap on non-residents like UT is. but I can't speak to whether they personally prefer texas residents over non-residents, although I bet if you write a compelling Why SMU essay, it won't matter either way.

I think this is right. Since they are private I don't think they care where their students come from as long as the student is what they are looking for.
