Re: Stanford 2010!!!
It's my first choice (tied with Harvard)... I really hope I get the chance to choose between them.

Absolutely. SO accepted to doctorate programs in the bay area gives it a huge advantage over Harvard or (if I were to be accepted) Yale.CordeliusX wrote:How many of you guys have SLS as your top (or truly tied for top) choice?

Got my first rejection today. Not a big deal, it was a huge reach.

I have some specific, personal reasons for preferring Stanford among the smaller schools. PM me if you want details.adameus wrote:wow, you're gonna turn down yale? Sorry this might be old news, but I was unaware of it.CardinalRules wrote:+1.SR86 wrote:It's my first choice (tied with Harvard)

I like the idea of Stanford, and its weather. It seems exotic to me (Never been to the West Coast). I have nothing but good things to say about Stanford, but unfortunately Harvard is just the perfect fit for me.

Re: Stanford 2010!!!
For all I know SLS has my rejection in the mail already. But, I'm sending off an additional Stanford-specific LOR just in case I'm still in play. Can't hurt.

Re: Stanford 2010!!!
Stanford is my only outstanding application. I did not initially send out any targeted LOR's, but since I have not been rejected yet and I have a good potential writer I am thinking about it.
The thing is I am a current UC Berkeley undergrad, last semester I took a Law and Econ course that is taught by a faculty of the law school (Boalt) and I did really well in the course. I was thinking I would ask that professor to write a targeted letter to Stanford, but I kind of feel weird doing that since I was already admitted to Boalt. Any thoughts?

Re: Stanford 2010!!!
What do you have to lose? It's not like Boalt can rescind your acceptance. Worst that happens is the rec writer expresses hesitation and you call it off, though I'd imagine that's unlikely to happen. Profs are professional; they know the deal.amandap wrote:Stanford is my only outstanding application. You're right Herb. I was trying to go easy on the Stanford board. What I meant to say was that I love Harvard, and I'm picking it over Stanford.

Make it happen. Not sending any targeted LORs is not a death knell, but it sure doesn't help. Let SLS know they are one of your top choices by putting in the extra effort.amandap wrote:Stanford is my only outstanding application. Dinged. Funny how I got my only two rejections so far from the schools I vastly preferred to all of the others.
