I think they were looking at everyone left and making a plan from there... maybe ranking who was left in some way. If x percentage accepts schollys, we will have y vacancies. I think you definitely have a point, but you should keep in mind that they probably still have apps from March to look at that they haven't relegated to their "get to them when we get to them" pile. Moreover, they probably have "ranked" us a bit, but that doesn't mean that midnight on the deadline day, they launch their acceptance letters. It will still probably be a week before another wave of acceptances.
