Already trying to pawn off that first born huh? I don't even think 10% of your income would cover the support they would be giving the child. Sweeten the pot next time, it is Columbia after all.

Held today, after 6 months of no real contact. Blah. As if I needed April to be any more of a dramatic month.

Anyone know how Columbia notifies of acceptances and rejections? Phone, e-mail, snail mail?

I don't know for sure. But I do know that Columbia, Berkeley, and Northwestern have the highest percentage of 30+ students in the T14.

No idea about that, since I wasn't held. I know acceptances are mailed, and I remember seeing people say they got reserve/rejection letters via snail mail on here. I think international applicants all get emails, though. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong. :)

Why would a school not like professional experience?

Do you all think it's possible for them to take someone off the reserve list before June...?

NYU doesn't seem to like it. I didn't know if Columbia did.

So does Columbia pay lip service or do they really consider softs?

I think they really consider softs because my numbers are incredibly low and I'm on reserve... that's not an acceptance, but I can tell they actually read my application

+1. < 25th percentile numbers, currently on "Hold" status.

I doubt anyone DISlikes it. It's just that most schools don't really care about softs. And why should they? We, by and large, determine where we want to attend by the rankings. The rankings are, in a large part, determined by LSAT scores and GPA. If I was an admissions dean and looking to move my school up, I would completely ignore *all* softs, and focus strictly on the numbers. I *might* read the essays to determine if they are capable of writing, but that would be a pass/fail exercise. I think the problem lies in all schools claiming to care about softs when they really don't. That's what aggravates me - the lip service. There are a few schools who do pay attention to them, but I think they are few and far between.

That said, with some solid WE, including management, and community service on my resume, I want them to focus on the softs, please.

But NYU is taking the people with lower numbers and no professional experience. That is why I was perplexed. So I wondered if it was a neg and not a positive. Columbia must like it?

Sorry hoss. To be honest, it's all the same to me. Hold = reserve in my mind, because there's no response until after the first deposit date.

I'm also not holding my breath for even one minute that this is going to turn into an admit anywhere down the road. It would be the TLS reach of the year.

That makes me feel better. Thanks! Yeah, I keep dreaming of being able to get an admit and shock everyone haha. They must semi be considering someone to place them on hold or reserve, right? Do you think there's a chance they could decide they like someone so much once they see their LOCI and accept a hold or reserve person early?
