just saw this. that's awesome, gah! at least you'll hear this month.
My greatest fear in two words:
Joan Hollaway wrote:Dear CLS,

All snail mail.
I thought someone said holds are emailed?

Why would a school not like professional experience?
NYU doesn't seem to like it. I didn't know if Columbia did.
I doubt anyone DISlikes it. It's just that most schools don't really care about softs. And why should they? We, by and large, determine where we want to attend by the rankings. The rankings are, in a large part, determined by LSAT scores and GPA. If I was an admissions dean and looking to move my school up, I would completely ignore *all* softs, and focus strictly on the numbers. I *might* read the essays to determine if they are capable of writing, but that would be a pass/fail exercise. I think the problem lies in all schools claiming to care about softs when they really don't. That's what aggravates me - the lip service. There are a few schools who do pay attention to them, but I think they are few and far between.
That said, with some solid WE, including management, and community service on my resume, I want them to focus on the softs, please.
