I was held ED. Have not heard anything back.

Anyone else "held" from ED? Good luck utcris410. Had you visited Columbia before? I think that is what got me held instead of straight rejected (well, I'd also like to think I put together a good application).

I'm visiting at the end of March. Good luck to you as well!! :)

I was just starting to wonder if I was the only one. I've already pretty much chocked it up as a rejection and moved on, haha.

In the past, being held ED has pretty much been a soft rejection. A few people who are Held RD typically get in, but rarely do they seem to get to the ED held crew. :?

Depends on where you are. If you're near NYC, you could get it any day because you'd be one of the first in a batch. Even if you're somewhere else though, they do send them in batches, but some of the batches are pretty small and only one or two people in this thread report acceptances.

I think they've stopped doing batches and are now just having acceptances trickle out. The point of the batches seems to have been to deal with ED applicants and then those eligible for named scholarships. There hasn't been a real batch since the late January group that included the Hamiltons and Butlers.

I'm ED and haven't heard. I think if we were rejected, they would've done so. I called and they said a hold means there's an interest in your app.

I was accepted today!! I am so thrilled and yet conflicted because I've been hoping for it for so long......but i just dropped a small fortune to come to the NYU ASW at the end of March. And I've made all but firm plans to go to Berkeley for April 8-9. I want to love you Columbia!!!!!! (I'll certainly visit while I'm in NY but I would have loved to go to the ASW)...

Now for "I need help with my decision" postings...anyone in a similar schools boat want to PM/commiserate?

p.s. good luck to all of those still waiting! keep the hope. and may we all end up where we belong. (breaks into joe cocker..)

got my acceptance packet yesterday. very excited. reading the little booklet about the "subsidized" housing made me want to cry about COL in NY (even the cheap stuff was twice what I'm paying). still great to be accepted and probably going to Admitted Students Whatnot in April.

btw: 176/3.7 submitted 12/26 complete 1/15

best of luck to everyone.

Glad to see some movement via mail. The sooner I get my rejection letter the sooner I can deposit at Northwestern.

It is not quite a waitlist, but not an accept. Usually, means they want something from you to tip the scales one way or the other from admit to waitlist.

It also buys the schools time to decide on you without putting you on a waitlist. Purgatory sounds about right for it.

Held today (letter dated 3/3). Like my hold at HLS, I have no idea what to do b/c I don't have an updated transcript to send (my grades were not great for my last semester) and I don't have a job right now. :| I want to send something to them to show continued interest but have nothing new to contribute to my application. Thoughts?

A letter expressing your true love can't hurt. Talk about what you like about Columbia.

Well since you are unemployed, do research on the school. Find a professor that offers something you want. Write about that. Also write about what you will get out of going to HLS or CLS that will be a benefit to society. Keep it brief though, one page double spaced. Mention deadlines at other schools for scholarships or deposits.

Plus, go find a LOR writer and work on convincing them to write you a great one. Bring copies of your coursework.

Just my 2 cents.

Poor Orpheus: I sent a letter talking about my activities of late as well as listing the reasons why my interests match up with the school's strengths. I think even if you didn't win prizes or get a new internship or anything it can be useful to express that you're a productive person that really likes their school.

I heard visiting doesn't hurt either.

Good luck, held crew!
